It's early evening here so most likely everyone is hopping online now. During off peak times, my rates are higher.

Yeah, not too many people will be able to beat that, except for the upload speed. I never knew we had such limited upload speeds at work.

This seems okay, but if I try to sign on to Playstation Network, it knocks me offline several times per session for no apparent reason. It did this with my Wii and 360 as well.

My friend said it could have something to do with the fact that I have a phone line and Internet access through Suddenlink, but I don't get cable (I don't do satellite either). He said there's some sort of blocker or something that interferes with the Internet connection.

Same results, more or less, as for the past two years (and they still misspell Malmö, too), just fine for me:

I had to update mine. It's 4 AM CST

Verizon Broadband Access says
• Fast downloads — typical speeds of 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps 1
• Fast uploads — typical speeds of 500-800 Kbps 1
• Low latency — improved performance for many applications running over the
wireless broadband network.

Let's get to the basics as well: My connection is DSL rated at "up to" 6Mbps down/600kbps up. Those of you that have posted and left this data out, please edit your posts so we can have a look at who's getting what from what.

I only pay for 1Mb (which is the highest they offer) service but for the last couple of months I've been getting over 2Mb. Not too shabby for a developing country:

Hey Hg2491, I was looking into Internet service on the east coast (Punta Cana/Bavaro) and was told I could get 5Mb service. Are you in a more rural area?

Looking at your results, I was about to say that Comcast in NYC and in northern NJ is quite different, but then I noticed you seem close to Seattle, and not in NYC as your profile suggests. I was lucky if I could get 700 as upload with Comcast here in NJ, and I was not lucky very often...

No, I live in the country's capital for crying out loud. I think I had a bad connection yesterday because I normally get 800-900 kbps on these speed tests.

Yes, they do offer faster Internet service, but it's way too expensive. Most of us in Santo Domingo pay for a service called VIP Plus Flash, which includes unlimited local minutes, preferred calling rates to the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, the basic services (Caller ID, etc) and a 1280kbps / 160kbps DSL connection. Overall it's around USD 80 with taxes.

Paying for 512 / 256 but this machine is NAT'ed twice with a couple SPI 'walls, so I'm happy.

Work

Strange that I should test using a node in Geneva when I'm in Toulouse.

Northern Spain node - work again

Home, about 6km from work

I pay 30€/month for this plus TV plus phone.

And with TV off

Not sure what this stuff translates to in English (my line details) :
NRA : RAM31 - think that this is the name of the telephone switch
Longueur : 1814 mètres - the distance to the telephone switch, I think
Affaiblissement : 27 dB - no idea, loss or weakness rate of something?
Attainable bitrate 945 kb/s (up) 12592 kb/s (down) - what I should get. AFAIK the TV takes up the most bandwidth, and has priority.

This is my work connection, which is 25 MBit inbound and outbound. There are about 700-ish computers currently sharing that connection, so that's why I'm not quite getting the full 25 MBit right now. Off-hours speeds are really quite nice.

I'm on Comcast's Performance plan at home, which is their lowest tier. The official description is "Downloads speeds up to 15 Mbps with PowerBoost and upload speeds up to 3 Mbps with PowerBoost. "

I'm getting more than that.

Here are my iPhone results last night at home:

WiFi

3G

Here is my work results again just for bragging purposes.

All I know about my work connection is that we're on the same backbone connection as the University of Washington. Needless to say... it's fast.

No... I can't. Never have. I have a Halo demo on my iBook, so when I take that around to hotels and such I can play on Blood Gulch over and over and over again.

It handles StarCraft nicely (lol) with a few slowdowns here and there. I've tried other RTS games, which work the best, but most don't do so well.

Then there's just the problem of the data transfer that occurs from playing online, which is too much for my 450 MB per 24 hours cap.

So yea. It sucks. I have a hard enough time keeping games up to date even if I could play online. (Gotta download from 2-5 AM, my free zone.) And with my speeds as they are, some patches are just too big to fit in that 3 hour period.

I'll never forget the first time I tried playing Battlefield 2 online though... Man did I piss people off.

WAT? What are you shelling out for this service?

Christ, if I watch an NBA game online that 1.5 GB alone...

All I can say is that I'm not surprised I have some of the worst latency for someone in the continental US. I blame every error I've ever made during online gaming on this.
(I'll try hitting up your server when I get home tonight)

Edit: So what's up with your speed practically doubling?
