So my old Apple caddy CD300 ROM drive finally gave up and i´m looking for a replacement. Will any narrow-SCSI (50 pin connector) drive like this Pioneer DR-U03S SCSI Slot-In CD-ROM Laufwerk | eBay work in my 6100 PowerMacintosh or will there be the need of finding drivers or the danger of running into other hassle? i do not need full functionality like support of software controlled disk ejection, only the ability to transfer System 7 and 8 files back to this machine.

Rule of thumb with CDROM drives is that there is one driver to rule them all.
I had a Yamaha CD Writer that I used with OS 8.6 just fine until it died so my guess is any ROM will do.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
