It's a lot more than just a fine - this kid (yes, he is a kid, despite the horrible nature of his crimes) is going to be in jail for the rest of his life. Due to his age and his "boyish" look, he'll probably be beaten and sexually abused by other inmates, too.
For the rest of his life. NO possibility of parole.
That's plenty of punishment for me. This guy is going to suffer, and we'll never see him on the streets ever again. This is hardly what you'd call a slap on the wrist.

I am surprised that the jury didn't give him death. The jury must have been sympathetic because tomorrow is Christmas Eve.

Frankly, I'd say life in prison without parole is worse than death. Of course, I'm not in a situation to choose, so my opinion is kinda distant. But still.

What good is death going to do? Give him death, yes, "he is out of our hair." He is a god damn kid. The question is, how would you feel if your son/brother was in the same situation. Does he REALLY deserve death? Do two wrongs make a right? Is it not murder if it is done by the state. When does it stop being a murder and then become a casualty of the state?
Let's open our minds and take a lesson from Crime and Punishment.
