I'm not a power user, but I'm no beginner, either. So I'm feeling a bit sheepish asking this:

I just had to re-format the ailing hard drive in my daughter's iMac. After replacing her data the best I could, I cannot re-name the hard drive. "Macintosh HD" doesn't strike her as terribly creative, and now her Pops can't figure how to change the name to something more expressive. Renaming darn near anything else on her computer isn't a challenge; just the hard drive...

So, can someone forgive the dumb-ass question and help me out here? Thanks.

You can't change the hard drive's name while File Sharing is on. If File Sharing is off, run Disk First Aid. File Sharing is turned off through the control strip.
