I have a pretty hard and fast rule.

Once I kill someone on the job, I resign.

Last I remember is that Airbus claimed that with the A320neo it wouldn't make sense to develop an entirely new aircraft until 2030 or so. For otherwise you don't reap sufficient efficiency gains to make it worthwhile. Or so they claim.

It'll be interesting to see whether they opt for a more radical re-design. There are some studies for turboprop variants — these are about 20 % more efficient and on short hauls the speed difference is not as significant.

Those rules don't apply to C-level management these days. And even if they leave, they get to land softly with their golden parachutes.

Well, the rules of whether acts of contrition are judged genuine or not still apply.

Agreed.
Sure, and I would hope to return to a world where C-level executives take responsibility and don't avoid resigning just because they may not be technically or legally responsible.

Of course, it’s not surprising that mentality is absent from an environment which cooks up this kind of scheme.

I'm not sure if I should ask. Have you had a lot of jobs?

I have.

Luckily, as of now, none of them have ended with me resigning in shame.

My biggest shame is running 500 amps through a bunch of wires that weren’t connected to anything on the other side. I considered resigning because of it, but nothing happened and nobody noticed, so I decided to consider it a lesson learned.

very few people die due to a graphic design f*ckup. But the xacto crisis of '95, well, that was a trying time...

It was on a film set. I was running power from the generator to a distribution box. Presumably, I got distracted, and quite simply forgot to plug in on the distro side.

Thankfully, it used this type of connector...

They kept the live part from randomly touching something, but the end is not exactly what I’d call sealed, either.

Your hard and fast rule doesn't really work so well in my job as an internationally renowned (in the right circles) hit man.

My mostest actual f**k up ever was when I stupidly mixed up a client drive with a.n. other drive and securely erased it and all their eldest childs baby photos. OK, so having a backup etc IS technically their responsibility etc but I was pretty upset and fairly trepidatious about confessing what had happened.

The client just shrugged and said "meh, we'll just tell him that half of the photos of his younger brother are him. He'll never know.

Change to 737 MAX controls may have imperiled planes, experts say

NEW YORK/SEATTLE (Reuters) - Much like tapping the brake pedal in a car to disengage cruise control, a sharp tug on the controls of older models of Boeing Co’s 737 used to shut off an automatic trim system that keeps the plane flying level, giving the pilot control.

But Boeing disabled the “yoke jerk” function when it brought out the 737 MAX, the latest version of its top-selling jet - and many pilots were unaware of the change, aviation experts told Reuters.

I thought that "yoke jerk" was what the hostesses called the pilot.
