Place your bets time for whats going to be there...

Very likely
iPod touch - retina screen, A4 chip, 2 cameras and Facetime.
iPod nano - smaller, with the 3cm touch screen

Possibly
iPod shuffle - change of colours, or death
iPod classic - if the capacity of the touch goes to 128GB, death, if not it will probably hang aroun another year.
iPad - OS 4

Maybe
iTunes - cloud service
Apple TV - $99 iOS based system
iLife & iWork - more iOS versions

Imaginationland
Facetime built into any Mac with an iSight and an email address

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I want a streaming service like Simplify Media was before Google bought it, integrated it into Android 2.2, and killed it for all other platforms.

For those not aware of this service:

The music collection on your home machine could be streamed over the internet to any iPod touch/iPad/iPhone via Wi-Fi or 3G.

I miss it dearly.

Apple will launch a Social Networking service embedded into iTunes, along with a massive referral program on Mac purchases.

I betting against the iTV based purely on the guitar.

Unwilling to bet on the demise of the Classic as I didn't think it'd last thins long. And I don't think the Touch will have matching capacity quite yet.

Interesting. I don't think a referral program on Macs would work. A referral program on music/media makes much more sense. You could make iTunes "friends", and send them media recommendations. If they buy based on your recommendation, you get a few cents worth of credit. Music recommendations may even come with a free stream or two. I think it can work.

The last thing iTunes needs is something else embedded in it

In the year 2024: OS XI will come embedded in iTunes.

ajprice has got a pretty good grip of what I think is likely to happen.

And while I'm hoping for a slimmed down, Cocoa iTunes X, I think we'll probably get a (more) bloated, crappy iTunes 9.3.

How long does it take to buffer a track for those of us with lousy upload speeds?

On Simplify Media?

Took a couple seconds. The server scaled sound quality down according to network speeds.

The damn thing worked at highway speeds: If you lost 3G signal, it would renegotiate after a couple seconds.

What pisses me off is that I finally got 5Mbit upstream, allowing Apple Lossless streaming, and a month later, Simplify's service is discontinued.

Quote from the press release: Apple® will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad™.

Emphasis mine. I guess Apple's argument pro HTML5/anti-Flash is entirely ruined then, huh?

It seems the media is getting progressively less excited about Apple events these days.

That said, the hype generated by this event is still more than any HP or Samsung announcement or whatever.

-I'm guessing the AppleTV will be updated. They've left that "hobby" item untouched since its release (besides a view software updates and larger HDs).
-The Beatles would be a nice surprise.
-Steve is going to touch on iOS 4 for iPad and it will be released "by the end of the month."
-Musical guest will be Elvis making his return from the dead. But if that doesn't happen it will be Paul McCartney and Ringo playing a Beatles tune. And if that doesn't happen it will be Jack Johnson or someone mellow and boring like that.

Great about the live streaming.

Instead of grabbing a cheap lunch and eating it while I watch the Engadget live blog, I can actually watch Jobs' hyperbole as it happens.

I don't care about iPods. I just want the rumored AppleTV/iTV/whatever.

There is a link on the homepage for me, the leftmost of the four boxes, that I imagine will be activated when the meeting starts.

Odd, I'm getting a check back soon.

Edit: I hate my company. It looks available but the stream is blocked on the hardline and on the unreliable wireless it says check back soon.
