Business version of VISTA will be released in November 2006. Consumer version delayed until January 2007. There goes the holiday up sell for Dell, HP and Gateway. Business 2.0 reporter said on CNBC Money Line this is good news for Apple. Maybe a later roll out for Leopard so Microsoft can't incorporate any more copied features.

HA! This is funny...although a but predictable too.

So will OS X 10.5 come out in January also? Or sooner?

I'm certainly not surprised.

LOL.

I'm just thinking, those 3 versions of the consumer version of Vista will create havoc amongst inexperienced users and troubleshooters, will they not? Troubleshooter: "Do A, then open B and click on C." n00b: "There is no B!"

But then everyone else will just pirate the Ultimate Corporate No-Activation Super Secret Internal Edition anyway. ;p

Anyone really surprised? The Vista that WAS going to be out, didn't have all the bells and whistles that was promised.

AND IT IS STILL DELAYED.

This is even less surprising than the PS3 being delayed. Really. They threw so many bells, whistles, clowns, baloons, circus acts and carnival rides into the thing that they're now (ONLY now) finding out that the clowns don't like the rides and the ballons scare the circus performers. In other words, all the new stuff doesn't work together seamlessly as they expected it to. And I'm surprised. NOT.

Please note that, to the detriment of Windows users, Vista seems to be an order of magnitude MORE COMPLEX than XP, so it's understood less by fewer of its designers and thus subject to more potential problems (both operational and security).

So I second ChuckIt's "yawn" on this. What's for lunch?

You know what else is delayed? The time it's going to take to save up the money for me to buy it!

I remember it was a year or more ago that we were having this discussion about Vista. Someone said that the development of XP SP2 was holding everything up and once that came out the "floodgates" (or some such term) would open up and a ton of new software would come out.

Microsoft finally admitted the real reason Vista is being delayed.

Steve Jobs wants it to be the default operating system on all Macs shipping in 2007.

Oh, you didn't hear it from me, but Vista is vaporware. MS will be focusing on their Office suit and the xBox in the future exclusively.

Anyone else read this?

Unlike the current Windows XP, there will be no versions designed specifically for advanced 64-bit computing, multimedia computers or Tablet PCs.

Would it be fair to say, Vista delayed is Vista denied???

I read it wrong. Apparently they went into "full production" and are finally working on it. But still maybe they really will release it before Vista. Would be funny.

Speaking of delays, Office 2007 was delayed until 2007.

Please read this - it's a blog posting from a Microsoft insider. Also read the comments, also mostly from MS insiders.

It's very telling.

in short, MS is ****** ! This is far, far worse than Copland. One of my favourite comments:

"What's the difference between OS X and Vista ?

Microsoft employees are excited about OS X"

Remember, these are MS insiders posting this stuff !

Vista will NOT ship in November - even as it stands that's marketing BS because no enterprise will pick up an OS that's not even ready for the consumer market. No, it will slip again, and again.

To paraphrase another comment, MS should licence Mac OS X and take on the work of getting it to work on all and every PC hardware, and writing a Windows compatibility layer (a-la Classic)

I don't see why Microsoft doesn't just release Vista before it's ready - then spend the next 3 years getiing it to work properly.

They could call it Vista v10.0 'cheetah'

got this from some comment at this page

* "Windows Vista! Now sucks 10% less than XP!"
* "Windows Vista. Safe and Secure. This time we mean it!"
* "Windows Vista--look at the pretty icons!"
* "Windows Vista--because 'Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 Pretty Icon Edition' wouldn't fit on the box."

Actually, they did that and called it "Windows XP."

Remember that old comic strip about Windows 95 where a couple of Mac users were sitting on a stadium and everyone was doing Macarena (much like everyone doing win95) ??

Well, they are on it again… who are these guys doing Macarena? LOL

Heeeeey Macarena !!!
