Bad. And if your argument is that it is good sometimes like med marijuana, then you're wrong. Communism is an oppressive totalitarian system of evil. There is no good side.

I doubt the politburo would agree.
I also doubt those living in cardboard boxes feel that democracy is as good as it gets.

There is always more than one side.

Having said that, the flawed, xenophobic, bigoted democracy I live in is preferable to a truely oppresive regime. Although, it's getting there. One small step at a time.

Communism in theory is almost as good as Capitalism in theory. In practice, however, it's almost as bad as Capitalism.

Anybody with the mental capacity exceeding the average houseplant, with just a slight understanding of history realizes that Communism has a miserable track record and no redeeming qualities whatsoever. For those who like to talk about it working "on paper" or "in theory," they fail to consider one very important ingredient: the fallen (a.k.a. "corrupt") human heart.

Yeah, but all they talk about is what's in the news. This is just a random thread. There is no news link. Just wanted to see what this unbaised forum what say.
I bet you 100 no one would call fascism good but would call communism good. Fascism has a stigma for you, but Communism doesn't have anything near that. Russia was more fascist in their political system that what good ol Marx was saying.
Turns out 20% of you have come out of the closetso to speak.

Capitalism rules. Capitalism lets you go out and start your own business. Communism takes your success and gives it to the losers.

Oh, and that whole "in theory" ******** says "I kinda like it, but I'm not gonna say it." If it were so good, then wouldn't the political system be able to deal with the innumerable amounts of failures? Or the ability to deal with these problems or become a successful political system? No. If it is so good on paper then it should be good in the real world. It's an evil form of government.

It is unfortunate that my country is headed on a path to socialism. If I had the power, I'd do quite a few things with this country. But I sure wish we had a republic.

But are you saying because it is prevalent it is good?

I voted communism rules because in theory it works but their is way too much corruption a dictatorship would be perfect if the number 1 wasn't corrupt. Though the people living in it wouldn't like it because noone likes being told what to do, but it would work well from a third person perspective.

Not at all. The insurance industry certainly shows the potential for corruption in the system. I wonder, though, how many people who fight for the right to share music realize how communistic the concept of P2P really is?

So you decide on theory
In theory, iPods last 8 hours.
In theory, anyone can use UNIX.
In theory, paper airplanes can fly to the moon.
In theory, people should be smart enough not to believe theory=reality.
Vote in the real world.
But since you think communism is good in theory, then you support its tenants and its system and therefore sympathize with the system, which makes you a commie.

For God's Sake...get the flouride out of the drinking water first!
I'd do a little more than that

Yes it is communistic. You are using other people's hard work as your own, like how people are supposed to be paid in communism.

Why? Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face. You know when fluoridation first began? Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, CreepingDeath. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works.

Russel: knew you were. Kerry and communism is redundant.

No, I was thinking more of, like, deporting illegals and destroying the ACLU. Set up missile defense, racial profiling (if they act suspicious, like buying first class tickets with no luggage.) End affirmative action. Etc.

Your commie has no regard for human life, not even his own. CreepingDeath, do you recall what Clemenzo once said about war? He said war was to important to be left to the Generals. When he said that, fifty years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought.

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Water. That's what I'm getting at. Water. CreepingDeath, water is the source of all life. Seven tenths of this earth's surface is water. Why, you realize that.. seventy percent of you is water. And as human beings, you and I need fresh, pure water to replenish our precious bodily fluids. You beginning to understand?

Its ingrained in every democratic person in every democracy that communism is bad.. atleast the people who remember.

Not likely many people will agree with it.

Yeah, it's funny how people forget stuff from little more than a decade ago. But since the fall of communism in Russia, fascism is taking its place. Ex: relativistic college kids.

If Europe got attacked by any body of government, I wouldn't care. We kick ass twice and we get **** for it. Have they even repaid their debt to us? Hell no.

There are no purely communist countries just as there are no purely capitalist countries.

Buck_W: "anyone with any understanding of History"? Hah !! The USSR/East Bloc failed and were communist (in name, mostly -- most academic Marxists had labeled them "State Capitalists" rather than truly Communist waayyyy back in the time of Stalin) . Last time I checked, China/Vietnam/N. Korea et al were still going strong despite our wars against them (who won those wars, BTW ??). Ditto Cuba .... Nicaragua was scraping by until we mined their harbors to starve them of trade and created/funded a fake "Contra" army to overthrow them (Illegally, BTW ... Congress had expressly forbid it, yet Ollie North and crew continued with it anyway).

Point is, in some types of societies, communism can work decently well IF the goal is to have food/shelter/clothing for the entire populous rather than the largest possible GDP and lots of consumer goods. Do a little research on the current state of the economy, poverty, etc. in the USSR since its gone Capitalist. Most people are FAR worse off now than when the country was Communist (of course, that may change with time, but its sunk pretty far in its first decade or so).

And for point of reference for all posters, Communism is opposed to Capitalism as an economic system ...not to Democracy as a political system. A Communist economy CAN be democratic as well. Take Allende's Chile vs. Pinochet's. We helped overthrow (and murder) Communist leaning Allende in favor of Capitalist leaning Pinochet ... who became one of the most notorious tyrants of the 2nd half of the 20th century. Point being Allende's gov't was far more democratic than Pinochet's. Many in Chile still referred to Allende posthumously as "Mr. President" during the terror of Pinochet's gov't.. Allende was, in a Democratic sense, the true choice of the people of Chile.

Finally, those of you equating the US Democratic party with communism have your heads shoulder-deep up your @sses. Look at the real differences between Dems an Reps in this country ... a few minor tweaks on tax structure (what groups pay what proportion) and expenditures (a little more or a little less on this or that) are the only significant differences. If Dems are communist, then over half the country voted communist in the last election.

As a Democrat and Kerry supporter, I can only hope that the US will become like Cuba someday, or, even better, Soviet Russia. Then we can finally be like our comrades in the People's Republic of China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Onward, the march of history, workers!

Please tell me you are sarcastic. Or we can be like Russia! Go kill millions and get away with it in the long run because commies have less of a stigma that fascists do! Or we can have Chinese slave labor! "All power to the Soviets" Lenin.

And no, I did a decent report on Cuba in 8th grade. I guess the man might have been okay when he overthrew Batista, but he seems no better in retrospect.

Did you even watch the preview?!?! You obviously don't have a clue about it. If you even bother watching it, you'd clearly see that it DOES NOT SUPPORT COMMUNISM AT ALL!!! It has abundant insight on macro-economics. It talks about the two main economists of the century, Friedrich von Hayek and John Maynard Keynes. Keynes supported a system of a government regulated economy, somewhat like the communist idea of controlling what's known as the commanding heights. (That being the main resources: coal, steel, oil, etc.) Hayek believed in the opposite, that being todays unregulated free-market economy. Believe it or not, after the great depression and world war 2, we followed in the likeness of Soviet economic policy. (Not as strictly of course, but certainly with qualities that of socialism) But during the 70's, under Reagan, the economy took a tumble due to what's known as "stagflation". (Combination of stagnation and inflation, with increase of unemployment) I could keep going but I'd prefer it if you just watch it yourself, then make your own judgment.

1. I did see the preview, and it doesn't look that interesting.
2. PBS=TV NPR
3. Reagan=80-88
4. We had economic growth
5. I wouldn't give PBS the satisfaction that I watched their drek. Rather go watch UPN.
5. How can you call the 50's economic policy Stalin-esque?
