The rioters are destroying cities and placing people in the hospital, saying, "We told you Trump would destroy America". Unbelievable.

Pics of demonstrators on the Right after Obama was elected? Oh wait, I found an image of the 2012 Romney riots:

Did you miss which side throws tantrums when they don't get their way? This isn't about simple rhetoric, it's about actions. Words != actions.

Tips for the "progressives" out there, you might want to look at these and heed them (that is, if you ever want the gov't back).

Was reading Silicon Valley wants California to secede, thereby proving both sides are the same, but only in the dumbest, worst ways.

You don't see the irony in Lam's picture? Or about everyone complaining about the protests, all "we should all come together" when 8 years ago they were all posting "lynch Obama" pictures and denying his citizenship?

Some jerks will always take advantage of a situation to score sneakers, or break stuff... doesn't mean all the protesters are like that. Wasn't there some destruction recently over a ball game of some kind?

The right is crying now because the left is "throwing their toys out of the pram" but this whole election is still the right doing exactly that over Obama winning 8 years ago. 8 years because they elected a black guy and the left doesn't get a couple of days when you elect a fascist?

Or rather try to elect one. He seems to have had a personality transplant since Tuesday. I expect Hillary had him replaced with a Doppelgänger.

"They were all", no they weren't. A few were, far, far fewer than the number rioting and causing damage now. Yet again, complaining and marching is great, it's protected speech, causing widespread mayhem isn't.

Not comparing scope is very disingenuous, it's as bad as saying signs are the same as actual violence and property destruction.

Trump isn't a fascist, that's laughably absurd, he isn't even as conservative as the average Repub in congress. "Exactly that"? Still waiting for the riot pics from the 2008 election (carrying signs doesn't count). Oh wait. That didn't happen, did it?

The gravity of the office changes people, as has been noted many times already. Also, he was deliberately bombastic to get attention, it worked and the media gave him $5B in free publicity. It's the best play in the history of modern politics.

Some people might think that deliberately clogging up government and refusing to perform your elected duties was tantamount to vandalism. Some might call it treason. One of these is generally considered more serious than the other.

Steady on, Gertrude. One generally is required to at least enter the office before one so much as notices its gravity.

You would think it was brilliant. Lying to the whole electorate to get elected. You don't think thats missing the spirit of democracy. And thats another reason his admirers deserve their deplorable tag.

I "scored the point" because you're so obtusely vague.

and some would say you're full of sh*t and using false equivalence again.

Whatever you say, Francine, since you've gone through the process and all, had a nation vote for you and entrust you with their future. I'm sure that's just water off a duck's back.

You're accustomed to liars, look at your entire regressive ideology. Bombastic != lying, but you also don't understand consent or bigotry either, so I'm not surprised. Did Trump lie at times? Oh yeah. Was that why he got attention from the media? Nope. It was because there's no telling what he would say at any given moment. He played them and beat them at their own game, it was a brilliant strategy.

Thats becoming your catchphrase and its rapidly losing all meaning when you say it. Well reasoned point though

Come on, even you have to admit its a bit sudden. He actually sounded genuine when he was saying nice things about both Hillary and Obama. And now he is backtracking on campaign pledges already. Not that I mind any of it.

I am accustomed to liars. Thats what British politics has been my whole life. So has yours of course but for some reason your electorate in the main hasn't worked it out yet.

Bombastic ≠ lying but campaigning as an extreme right wing lunatic and then turning into a reasonable guy the day you win and discarding two or three of your main campaign promises before you even get close to being sworn in is lying.
Guess what else? Being prepared to say absolutely anything, regardless of truth makes you much less predictable and therefore gets you even more attention. I'm not saying he didn't play anyone. But we are already discovering that much of it was lies. And thank goodness it was.

I know most of you coundn't give a rip, but for the second Sunday in a row, the readings are like whoa! Keep in mind they run on a three years cycle.
Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 159
Reading 1 MAL 3:19-20A

Lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven,
when all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble,
and the day that is coming will set them on fire,
leaving them neither root nor branch,
says the LORD of hosts.
But for you who fear my name, there will arise
the sun of justice with its healing rays.

Responsorial Psalm PS 98:5-6, 7-8, 9

R. (cf. 9) The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.
Sing praise to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and melodious song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
sing joyfully before the King, the LORD.
R. The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.
Let the sea and what fills it resound,
the world and those who dwell in it;
let the rivers clap their hands,
the mountains shout with them for joy.
R. The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.
Before the LORD, for he comes,
for he comes to rule the earth,
He will rule the world with justice
and the peoples with equity.
R. The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.

Reading 2 2 THES 3:7-12

Brothers and sisters:
You know how one must imitate us.
For we did not act in a disorderly way among you,
nor did we eat food received free from anyone.
On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day
we worked, so as not to burden any of you.
Not that we do not have the right.
Rather, we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you,
so that you might imitate us.
In fact, when we were with you,
we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work,
neither should that one eat.
We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a
disorderly way,
by not keeping busy but minding the business of others.
Such people we instruct and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly
and to eat their own food.

Alleluia LK 21:28

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

GospelLK 21:5-19

While some people were speaking about
how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings,
Jesus said, “All that you see here--
the days will come when there will not be left
a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

Then they asked him,
“Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered,
“See that you not be deceived,
for many will come in my name, saying,
‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’
Do not follow them!
When you hear of wars and insurrections,
do not be terrified; for such things must happen first,
but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues
from place to place;
and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.

“Before all this happens, however,
they will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

There were riots in Dade County, Florida, as supporters of GWB tried to stop the recount, and of course there were various manifestations on both sides while the recounts were going on. I don't remember there being any protests after it was all over. I suppose GWB was less objectionable then. He had good to decent approval ratings early on.

The infamous "Brookes Bros" riot (called that because the "rioters" were wearing nice suits)? 3 people were injured, 2 from being trampled by people opposing the demonstration and 1 was the DNC local chair who showed up with a bloody nose complaining that one of the "rioters" punched him, though he had no proof that they did, only his word. That's... umm... not even close to what we're seeing now, not even in the same universe.

So the game is "How many people have to die before someone who isn't utterly terrible is in charge?"

At the moment it looks like two would do it because Paul Ryan seems relatively sane. But will Trump replace him as speaker? Those liberal assassins better get a move on or their workload is gonna get much much higher.

I don't know much more about him than that.

He was completely spineless. I don't know what news you were following.

Am I thinking of the wrong guy? There was one who even after he stopped outwardly opposing Trump still refused to endorse him. The rest pulled full 180s and knelt before Zod. Ted Cruz cut his own junk off and handed it to Trump on a silver gold (plated) platter.

Who am I thinking of it not Ryan? For some reason he looks a bit more sane than most of the others too. Appearances can be deceiving of course.

Here is a real problem the Dems have. Keith Ellison has announced he is running for DNC chair. How are they going to deny him the post without coming off as Islamophobic?

I didn't say that. Sure Ellison can be DNC chairman, and Democrats will look like hypocrites after bending over backwards to paint Bannon as a "white nationalist" and then elect a "black nationalist" as DNC chairman.

And what exactly makes Rep. Ellison a "black nationalist"?

The fact that he's black.

I read “but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” somewhere, but I don't quite remember where, I can't quite put my finger on it …

False equivalence much? Are you really hanging your hat on the distinction that Bannon himself isn't a racist in the Klansmen sort of sense (you can add anti-semitic, misogynistic and a few other adjectives), he just runs and controls a website that is very popular with them? That Bannon is merely sympathetic to many of the ideas racists hold, although not necessarily agrees with them to the full extent? The fact that someone like Bannon is (politically speaking) allowed even close to the White House, especially the very heart of it, is extremely disconcerting.

Sorry to say this, but people like you are the reason for the downfall of the conservative movement in the US, it has become hollow and rotten from within, because people care more about winning than maintaining moral integrity, for which the good of the country takes precedence over the good of the party. Which is a shame, because for any democracy to be healthy, you need the tug of war between different points of views.
