Heya guys, can anyone tell me why I have to use an iMic if I use an "analog" microphone (actually it's a Plantronics headset)?
Why doesn't the line-in port work like those sound cards on those PC computers?

Because line-in and mike-in are electrically different. You can use a microphone preamplifier to bring a mike to line level. But the iMic is a very cheap option that works well.
I do kinda wish that Apple would adopt that particular feature of PC sound cards and offer both line-in and mike-in.
Apple used to always provide mic-in ports. They quit doing that at some point, but USB audio is supposed to provide greater sound quality, or so I've heard.
