Basically we need to watch TV on a 20 inch iMac...DVR functionality too, I guess.

Which brand/model is the best? I haven't heard anything in a long time.

Miglia or Elgato are the two most popular options.

Depending on what you want to do, a Slingbox may also be an option.

Check the hardware which is compatible with EyeTV 3, you could use even a pc tuner,
EyeTV software

Weird enough it seems there are some issues with certain Elgato hybrid USB tuner and 10.5… I can recall reading about it on their forum, so I bought an Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-T Stick, didn't receive it yet so I can't tell how good (or not) it works.

BTW, which CPU is inside your your 20 inch iMac? if it is an intel then it is OK to use the Miglia option, it was a G5 model it is going to be just slow.

I'm using a Miglia TVMax with Elgato's EyeTV software. Best setup IMO -- does hardware encoding to divx, something Elgato's own hardware doesn't offer.

Which country are you in?
How do you get your TV signal?
What do you intend to do with the video you record?

The model you get from any of the different manufacturers will depend on the answers to those two questions, because you need a model that is either NTSC/ATSC/QAM or PAL/DVB-T/other DVB flavor, or some other variety of signal types. Answer those questions and it gets easier to make a good recommendation.
