I might do a deal for a imac g3 500 mhz and i was wondering if its insanley slow when surfing the web on a high speed connection?

It is fine for surfing the web. It depends on what OS you have of course, but Panther and TIger would be a good choice. Plus you would want to have at least 512Mb of RAM.

yeah its running 10.4.7 what i know 512 ram is a must but is there any way i can update the hardware on it with newer imacs?

What do you mean? Are you talking about a logicboard transplant? it would probably be possible if you got one of the same model and revision, but why bother? Also, I am currently using a 400Mhz iMac for browsing, and is works just fine with Panther.

bmd, if you're talking about the deal you might do with me, you're mistaken - you'd be getting the 350mHz.

I have a 350 MHz Blueberry with 512 MB RAM and it's fine for internet surfing, email, word processing, streaming music through iTunes. The only thing I've found that suffers is video playback, and that's only sometimes. I just picked this machine up on craigslist last week. It's nice having a "vintage" iMac in the house.
