I purchased the iMac G5 back in sept. when they were first released.
Since then I've put in another 256 stick of the apple memory making it 512mb, it ran fine for what I do, but then things started to seem slower and slower.

So my question is, would going from 512mb, to 1gb, make a big difference in terms of speed, and the way the (ui) feels? Beach Balling... I know you can never have too much memory, but would it make me want to keep the iMac instead of switching to something else?

I do webdesign, photoshop... so on and so on.
iMac G5 20" 512mb (2x256 apple), yada yada yada...

If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.

I definitely noticed fewer beach balls when going from 512 MB to 1 GB. Highly recommended.

512mb should be enough for light multitasking. However, if you do photoshop and web design then I would suggest at least 1gb. Web design usually requires you to multitask heavily -- especially if you're using the Macromedia suite. When you've got photoshop, dreamweaver, ftp client, a couple web browsers, etc all open at the same time your system is going to need more than 512mb.

Also, if you want to really improve UI responsiveness then you should lay down the cash and get Tiger. I haven't bought Tiger yet because I have no need for it, but if I required a faster UI for acceptable graphics work then I would definitely get it.
