You are missing the point. In the real world, no one hooks their cell phone up to their computer. They go to a cell phone company, get a phone plan, manually input all their numbers and make phone calls with it. I would say that at least 5 percent or less people with cell phones hook theirs up to their computer or even know what firmware is.
With the iPod, EVERYONE hooks it up to their computer because that is how it works. They are two completely different devices used for completely different things. People get new music, people want that new music on their iPod, people hook it up to their computer.... they will update. Phones, no chance.
