After upgrading a 10.2 machine to 10.3 on one of the G4 machines at work - the 733mhz pre-quicksilver model - the 'a' key has stopped working. Press a and nothing is typed on screen, in any program. All the other keys work fine.
- the 10.3.5 update didn't fix the problem.
- I've tried using international to chose a new keyboard mapping but 'a' still won't work.
- Shortcut keys that use a - such as Cmd-A for 'select all' DO work, oddly.
- the A key on the on-screen keyboard does not work.
- on Apple's support site I found an article that talks about a single key not working and says that speakable items is the culprit, however Esc was the key configured for speakable items and changing it to something else did not fix the problem.
Any advice or insight would be very welcome.

there was something along these lines with the 3rd party app "synergy" im on a crappy connection, but try google it up if you think this could be the cause. good luck.

You guys have nailed the problem.
Thanks soo much!
Since the machine's admin password has an 'a' in it trying to do anything useful was a real treat! I ended up copying & pasting As from other programs.
