I had one (GBASP), but the screen is too small, the backlight is purple (just generally a really bad screen, like on a first gen iPaq). Build quality is not good either. Still have a flashcart on it with all the emu's lol.

The "shield" I bought to protect the screen screws into those holes. Wonder what they're going to end up doing in the future if you multiple things that need to be screwed in there at the same time?

I got one the day it came out also, the screen isn't very good, you can see the LCD's are large and widely spaced so it has that screen door effect though. The size of the unit and battery life are incredible though.

I find myself never using it though as the games are just too simple and I can't get into them. I play classic games like Mario 2 but that wears thin 15 years later.

The first "screwer" shall have holes of its own so that the following "screwers/accessories" may also "screw"... on piggyback style.

Sure, you talk a lot of crap in lots of threads and no matter how many people put you in your place you're always right. Two shiners for you...

-The iPod was seen as too expensive when it came out. People predicted failure. In the last two quarters Apple has sold more iPods than it did in the last two years.

-The PS2 also sold a limited quantity when it first came out due to its high price. The rest is history.

There's a problem. In both cases both devices were first to market. The PSP is not first to market, and will very soon be against the Game Boy Advance 2, which if rumors are right, can play GameCube media. The PSP is expensive, and not first to market.

Anyway, I went to the mall yesterday looking for a demo unit. Couldn't find one, but everyone seemed to have plenty of PSP's in stock, and the DS demo unit seemed pretty busy.

I agree that it's too early to tell if the PSP is a success, but this is just revisionist history.

When the iPod first debuted, it was only being marketed to Mac users. IIRC, it was still an unquestionable success from the beginning.

The PS2 had an extremely successful launch. The only reason it sold a "limited" quantity was because only a limited quantity was available. There were lines virtually everywhere for that system. Remember the midnight raffles and all that?

If you're looking for reasons why the PSP launch is (apparently) not living up to expectations, I'd consider the bundle decision that drove up the price, lackluster marketing, lack of any demo units, and bad timing. Trying to pretend it compares to the iPod and PS2 launches isn't the answer.

NO marketing is more like it, nobody but the hard core gaming nerds really knew it was coming out on the 24th. Also no matter what it is nothing will launch as successfully in March as it would at Christmas when people actually have the money to spend on the damn thing and but it as gifts.

All blockbuster products that cause fights and whatnot came out at Christmas.

I think lack of demo units is a problem. I honestly was looking for one yesterday to try, but people coming into the store looking for a PSP demo unit will just run into a DS one instead.

The PS2 was a next generation console that has been a success because of the PSX. Likewise the PSP will follow in the PS2's footsteps. There's no much marketing now because more software titles have to be on the shelves, which will happen without a doubt. Sony might also be waiting for a software update to the PSP before advertising new features.

The iPod was not the first to the market. It's design and then compatibility with Windows and the Mac made it the best seller. The PSP has the best design out of any handheld multimedia and games player and also plugs into Macs and Windows. The Nintendo DS...Nintendo typically opens well but cute games and blocky graphics always put it in second (will do against the PSP) or third (against the PS2 and X-Box) place after a year's worth of sales.

There's really no doubting the PS2. Once you get your hands on one and experiment with it, it really is remarkable. The battery life is better than advertised too. Wait for the marketing which will happen around the time it is released in Europe.

Actually, the GC was second place after a year's worth of sales. The Xbox passed it at some point last year. As far as handhelds go, I doubt either the DS or the PSP is going to knock the Game Boy out of the top spot. It could happen, but I wouldn't say it's likely.

Same here. Wipeout Pure is like crack. Except for Friday and Saturday night when I went out with friends for drinks, I've been playing it all weekend.

afaik, TM:HO is the only game that supports is.

BTW, how do you pronounce Lumines? LOO MINS? LOO MEEENS?

Loomeens sounds gay (sorry SWG ), but loomins sounds acceptable.

I have resorted to calling it "The Puzzle Game"

Did anyone else have difficulty getting the PSP to accept your password for your airport network? The PSP tells me I need to enter a 5 or 13 character ASCII key....

I play TM online.

Didn't play with my PSP much this weekend since I wound up finding a way to make a sh*tload of in-game cash in WoW and pretty much exploited it all weekend (no, I did not say it was an exploit). Had 4g before I was level 10.

Anyway, I bought 2 copies of Untold Legends for me and my daughter. It's a damn fun game if you're into that Baldur's Gate/Champions of Norrath type of game. I think it's the same engine. Lots of fun, especially with 2 players.

Lumines has been taking up most of my time when I'm using the PSP. Wipeout's fun but Lumines just sucks me back into it. Must...get...higher...score...

I installed that utility for transfering stuff to the PSP and half the time it claims the transfers are corrupted.

I think that I'm just going to buy a card reader.

This one works perfectly for me:
http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/pspware

If you transfer things over by hand OSX copies over the .DS files which the PSP thinks is corrupt.

Are any of you using the USB cable, if so where did you get it? Is it the same cable Sony uses for their cameras? I'm currently transfering files to my phone over Bluetooth and then taking the memory stick from that and sticking it in the PSP. A slow process.

I think it is a standard USB cable with a small end on one side. At any rate they sell one for the PSP for $5.
