Hey everybody!

I do a lot of switching back and forth between my powerbook's built-in keyboard and a Microsoft Natural USB keyboard. In Panther, I used uControl to remember that when my MS keyboard was connected, I wanted option & command switched. Since uControl doesn't work with Tiger, I've largely had to manually change this each time I hook up the keyboard. Needless to say... this is quite annoying, especially because it used to be automatic.

Just this morning I did a little searching and found a handy UI AppleScript to do the work for me:

This is still not nearly as elegant a solution as what uControl provided. Anyone else have suggestions?

Thanks!

You can swap the Option and Command keys in Tiger's Keyboard system preferences - under "special keys" or whatever the button at the bottom of the keyboard tab is labeled in English.

Unfortunately, there is no system-provided way to re-map the laptop enter key to a second option key...

editd: sorry - just saw that you know this, but wanted it to do this automatically when you connect a 'board.
My post is not very helpful in that light.

I ended up installing Microsoft's IntelliType software from their site and that did the trick. Thanks anyway!

I have the same problem, and thanks to my KVM the microsoft drivers won't work - the KVM isn't seen as a microsoft keyboard even though I have a Microsoft keyboard attached.

Since uControl can't actually be hacked to work does anyone have any other suggestions?
