<RANT>
First off I bought a new QS 800DP and the machine is soooo buggy! OS 10.0.4 is painfully slow, so I have reverted back to 9.2.1. The machine will not always wake up from Sleep--it often just cuts off when you press a key or click the mouse!!! Sunday my wife pressed some key combination and the computer blinked out and went into a coma: the power lights would flash three short times and one steady repeatedly. I had to pull the power cord to get it to shut down! Now I get system errors or bombs or freezes at least once a day!!!
</RANT>
The eject key worked fine for about a week, then it would open and eject the SuperDrive but would not close it. Now I cannot even open the SuperDrive! I've installed the eject control strip module-nothing works. I assigned the eject application to an Function key (tried F1-F15)-nothing works. I have even moved the eject application directly to the desktop and when I double-click the icon-nothing happens.
I want to install software from my iMac, but I cannot install anything because I can't get the damn drive open!!! Is there anyone out there with any advice?

You might want to try a PRAM reset. Hold down P-R-Cmd-Opt on startup. Sounds like it's a problem at the board level, not the software level. You might also want to make sure that your keyboard is not going through a monitor or other USB repeater when you attempt to eject the CD tray.
Hope this helps.

Could it have been shift+command-zero? that kills my sawtooth in the same way.

My Cube occasionally "loses" the volume +/- and disk eject keys, and the only thing that fixes it is rebuilding the desktop using Tech Tool. The usual restart+opiton+command doesn't always work.
I long for the days when I could just whip out "Silver Beauty," my trusty paperclip.
FWIW, 9.2.1 seems less stable overall compared to 9.1. Can a Quicksilver run 9.1? I'd say backtrack, if it can.

I'll try PRAM reset tonight. The keyboard is connected through the monitor, so I will change it out.

I don't know if it can run 9.1. There are four restore CDs that came with the system 10.0.4 and 9.2.1 preloaded. I do have a 9.0.4 CD. Suggestions?

Give it a try. If not, go back to 9.21.
Or... we could experiment.
Use the ROM and System Enabler etc from 9.21 with the 9.1 or 9.04 (IMO, the best) System...

Well...
I tried just plugging the keyboard directly into the tower-no luck.
I tried zapping the PRAM-no luck.
So, I gave up and called Apple (making use of my free 90-day tech support! ) and the guy asked the one question that I should have asked myself, "Have you installed anything?" Since this is a new system...I had only installed two items Quicken2K under 10.0.4 and the drivers for my external hard drive (IDE-USB enclosure) under 9.2.1. Duh! :o Before the gentleman had time to say anything else, I was on my way to the Extension Manager. The conflict was with the unnecessary IDE-SCSI driver. Now the eject key, control strip module and F-key assignment works...For now. *crosses fingers*
<funny side note>
My wife and I have four young c o c katiels that have free run of the house. They have their wings clipped and can't fly; they just flutter to the floor. Since they haven't perfected their landings, they sort of crash to the floor. One of the birds was on my lap while sitting at our desk and it fluttered to the seed dish...When she crash-landed, I said "And crash!" The tech support guy was startled and began feverishly asking, "What happened?!? What did the computer do?!?" Then I explained to him that I had birds and the computer was fine. I wonder if they get a pay cut if their tech support causes the computer to crash?

I mean experimenting software wise
I'm sure we could get 9.04 to work...
8.6 was good... but doesn't cut it anymore.
