While I haven't run it for more than 5-6 hours closed, it's only slightly warmer, and the screen most definitely is not warmer to the touch. The laptop does get rather warm, however, when it's sitting on my bed while I'm laying down. Probably just the fact that the bed is insulating it.

I'll run a temperature sensor, and compare the difference in temperature to see if there's a quantitative difference between running it open or closed when it's docked on the desk. Thanks.

Here's my setup... please excuse the lo-quality pictures

iCurve stand, Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Logitech MX510 precision mouse

and Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra powered speakers. The sub makes
a nice footrest.

The thing in back with the blue light is the M-Audio USB Sonica Theater
5.1 sound card

The best mouse I've ever used, but soon to be replaced with
the MX1000 bluetooth mouse.

Below, waking up my neighbors

MX 1000 is not BT but RF. I'm really thinking bout getting the MX 1000 but untill the BT version comes out, I'm leaning towards MX 900, even though the MX 1000 is the best mouse out now, where as the MX 900 has it's issues here and there. Nice setup you got there, simple and not too clean...I like it.

Really? I have been using an MX900 for quite a while now and find it to be the best multi-button BT mouse I've ever seen. Granted, the MX1000 probably has better tracking (higher resolution), but there's no BT version...

Aw, I thought it was BT. In that case I'll stick with the MX510. And Serenity.

OK maybe I used the wrong word, how bout annoyances. I hear that it takes 10+ seconds to wake a PB up with the MX900 and that sometimes you lose the connection with your PB. Also Simon, I've used the MX 700 (RF optical for those who don't know) and find it's tracking OK but not any more precise than my corded two button logitech mouse. How accurate is the MX 900, seeing how it is BT and all?

Maybe others have had such experiences, but from my own experience, all I can say is that the MX900 works out of the box with Panther, needs no drivers at all (even if you want to use its 8 buttons for Expos), and performs as you'd expect. It wakes my PB up within two seconds and best of all, it needs no 'initial click' as many other BT mice do. I never lose my connection unless I let the batteries run down. The MX900 performs just as good as my Apple BT Keyboard - in other words, impeccable.

Also Simon, I've used the MX 700 (RF optical for those who don't know) and find it's tracking OK but not any more precise than my corded two button logitech mouse. How accurate is the MX 900, seeing how it is BT and all?
My MX900's tracking is about as good as my other Logitech two-button mice. It's not perfect, but good enough for my needs. I wouldn't say it tracks worse than my corded mice. However, I'm pretty sure it won't stand up to the MX1000 which is supposed to have excellent tracking. But unless they introduce a BT version, I won't switch.

I really like my MX900. Its functionality is far superior to Apple's BT mouse and its tracking and usability is far superior to MacMice's BT Mouse (which really sucks) or the (much too tiny) MacAlly. In this post, I thoroughly wrote down my experience with the MX900. IMHO it all boils down to the question if you want a BT mouse or not. If so, and if it has to have more than one button, the MX900 is the only real choice.

BTW, here's BareFeat's take on BT mice for the Mac:

Hi there!

It's been a while since I last read this thread, so, first of all, sorry if this
has already been mentionned.

Did some of you guys check the pictures at:

http://forum.macbidouille.com/index....&cmd=sc&cat=11

I particularly like this one, showing two powerbooks:

http://forum.macbidouille.com/index....cmd=si&img=471

Is it not impressive? :-)

Yes, it looks like a MX900, I have two myself.

It works with the Mac right away, no need for any software. All 8 buttons are supported in Expos for example. You need the dock for charging, but you can just connect it to AC power, you don't need to plug in the USB cable and use the dock's internal BT transmitter. However, I don't know if it will work as a BT dongle replacement on the Mac, if that's what you're wondering about. Logitech didn't mention support for Mac OS X...

Haha sorry I'm not sure what you mean by the BT dongle replacement. I'm going to order a PB once Tiger comes out, but for now just doing some research.

So you just plug in the AC adapter for charging and the Mac will work with the BT built in the MX900?

You plug the dock into AC power for charging. The mouse will 'talk' to the BT hardware built into your PowerBook. The BT transmitter in the dock is left unused. Hence, no need to plug in the dock's USB cable.

Newer PowerBooks come with BT built in. Other Macs have a BTO option to have it built in. What I was getting at, was that I haven't heard if the MX900's dock BT transmitter will work with a Mac that doesn't have BT built in. If it would, a lot of people could save the $30 or so they lay down for an additional external BT dongle.

That is a really slick site. As soon as I get my PB (if they ever announce Tiger), I will be "decorating" it with some images from there.

Very nice stuff.

P.S. I can't believe I am up to 40 posts already, and I still don't even own a Mac.

It might make you chuckle for a moment or two. but... I'm serious. I wake up from night terrors, screaming and thrashing, and the Powerbook nails the floor, no pun intended. I usually wake up in the wee hours of the morning to a malformed Powerbook, and reach for my hammer to put it back in order.

Please take note of the electrical tape around the display housing. That isn't purely cosmetic. Sometimes I feel as though I shouldn't be let out unsupervised.
