Macbook Santa Rosa no internal Sound , But HeadPhones work Fine what gives?
Chimes on startup but sound Icon on top bar is grayed out

Good question.

Could be software. Boot from another disk and test.
Otherwise it could be a faulty Left I/O board. Worth checking the headphone jack for any obstructions or damage.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

waragainstsleep.
plugged an un plugged earphones several times and everything went back to normal so i suspect there was some obstruction as you suggested, thanks for the tip
