"The first is the Common Dreams report that shows that optically scanned votes have a strange anomoly in florida: the Diebold counties roughly matched up to party registration numbers, but optically scanned paper ballot counties showed strangeness like one county where 69.3% registered democrat, but only 28% of them voted for Kerry. Palm Beach County, Florida logged 88,000 more votes than there were voters; that machines in LaPorte, Michigan discounted 50,000 voters; in Columbus, Ohio voting machines gave Bush an extra 4,000 votes; in Broward County, Florida voting machines were counting backwards; Lastly, precincts in New Mexico gave provisional ballots that will never be counted to as many as 10% of all their voters."
Hurrah for electronic voting.
Gods, I can see the lawsuits already.

We've been doing electronic voting for years without problems over here. Why the **** can't they implement a decent system over there ? It's not like the US is some 3rd world country without the knowledge to implement a system that works and is secure enough so that there can be no tampering with the votes.

May be they should copy the East Indian technology?

Pretty cool stuff that I read a while ago, thanks to Slashdot. Will be nice to see a stock ticker like election update!

Hellooo
"optical scanning" is how they read paper punch card ballots. It has nothing to do with 'electronic voting'.
You liberals are supposed to be whining about electronic voting...instead, you show proof that it was accurate - and manual paper ballots were inaccurate. Doh. Got it backwards.
PS, Ohio didn't use any Diebold machines in the Nov 2 election. A few Ohio counties bought some Diebold machines earlier in the year - but none have been used.

Too bad Ohio didn't use Diebold machines.
Diebold is an Ohio-based manufacturer. Which is what is referred-to in the oft-quoted "election promise".
Four more years of Dubya. Bottom line.
