Is this right? from what I have seen on the apple site, there is no
audio-in port specs on the new imac. For me, thats just garbage. anyone agree? or is there in fact an audio-in port?

Apple dropped audio in on all its machines, figuring that people can use a USB input device. Saving a little bit of money by cutting it out? Perhaps. The makers of the iMic have a list of reasons up why USB audio input is better, check it out.

Don't be fooled by the marketing. The bit rate of the iMic is marginally better than the audio in on the old iMacs BUT there is a LOT of latency through the iMic.
It's true that pro musicians spend lots of money on USB or Firewire solution, but Apple has snubbed a large number of amateur musicians by leaving audio in off and the iMic isn't a solution. You need to spend around $500 to get a decent replacement.
It doesn't really make sense to leave it off. The circuitry and the analog converter is there already for the internal mic. All they save was the cost of the plug.
If you're into hacking, I suppose you could cut a hold in the box and wire a plug that connects to the internal mic.
