No matter your political leaning, nationality, religious preference or any other qualifier, this is either the most disgusting, the most absolutely stupid, or both - advertising campaign ever concieved.

MacDailyNews | BenQ uses smoldering 9/11 ground zero WTC ruins to sell MP3 players

It seems like it was supposed to be a generic post-apocalyptic look rather than actually referring to the WTC attacks…but yeah.

Then boycott BenQ

To be perfectly clear: BenQ can choose to use any imagery they want, just as we can choose not to buy any products from BenQ.

Nope, Chuckit, definitely the WTC, note the distinctive exterior coloumns of the ruins. I'm sure they "thought" it would make the ad "topical." All it {probably} did, was make them go bankrupt.

I know what it is. I was theorizing on what the hell they were thinking. Judging by the text and the look of the player, they meant it to seem post-apocalyptic.

Your comment had no tangible affiliation with the topic. That's why I asked.

The Right has been walking over those ruins and the people in them to push their agenda for the last five years. It's a little late to be getting excited about yet another ad in poor taste.

Usually after a few people agree with the original poster someone will come on and say "only in amer..." or some other BS.

I was just beating them to the punch.

EDIT: See the post above mine for a perfect example.

Point taken.

Wow. The ad has nothing to do with the "Right". Some people...

Note to self:

WTC sentiment exploitation is tasteless when done for consumer products, but acceptable in politics.

Only in Amar..., wait, nevermind.

.... to be honest, doesn't bother me that much...but if anything it helps bring back the memories of what happened in a different and unexpected way...perhaps in ways not imagined by those on the left or the right..it is a significant event in history after all.

With no offense meant to any of the victims of 9/11 or any of the other posters here, I must say that as I was reading this thread I was trying to think of how to express my thoughts and feelings about this ad until I read your post, IceBreaker.

You summed up my thoughts and feelings perfectly.

BenQ apologizes

I at least give them credit for stepping up and saying "we screwed up". I'm sure it wasn't meant to be offensive, although using an actual picture of the destroyed world trade center seems not only to be in poor taste, but just plain stupid from a business stand point.

I'm so going to Special Hell for this joke.

Taipei, China - BenQ China issued a public apology during the unveiling of their revised advertisement campaign for the new dog-tag shaped MP3 player. "BenQ apologizes for the feelings this regrettable incident may have caused. We have put a process in place to prevent this type of incident from happening again," stated Clemens Joos, CEO of BenQ. "As you can see in this new ad, there isn't one hint of the World Trade Center. I don't see how this could possibly be construed as offensive by anyone."

"…I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than
you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods,
you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen F. Roberts

Well, I'm just a cold-hearted son-of-a-bitch I guess…like I didn't know already…
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.
