It was red transparency paper which I placed between the backlight for the LCD and the logo in the display housing.

It is a sticker right? I wouldn't be too worried about it. Anyway, you are in the mod forum. Voiding warranties is the buisiness of a modder.

I went to do this with my black macbook.. got everything off only to find that I'd have to cut the white paper that's against the inside casing for the logo.. i *really* wanted to, but I don't think I can justify voiding the warranty on a less than week old MB just for color's sake.

I was hoping the mod could be easily reversed.. but, not so.

Awesome mod, though. Very easy and makes a big difference.

do you mean having the film taped up behind the paper that's already there? I thought about doing that, but I didn't think it would show up very well.

You can't have the film in front of the white paper, though, because of the way it's stuck on there.

Hi all,

I saw this forum and was inspired to do a similar mod. It got me thinking that if you could use regular colored transparency, you could just as easily use printable transparency and include your own sort of logo inside the apple on the top casing. And so, I present the MacBook Black c3 edition (stands for cool calm chris - a nickname, don't ask ). I designed the logo with one of my good friends who happens to be a graphic designer. I further took the theme to the OS through a whole bunch of different software mods and custom graphics (you can see some of it in the pictures. Its pretty amazing how much you can turn your MacBook into something entirely your own with the right information.

One note, the replacement of the logo behind the screen, as many have noted, more than likely voids the warranty. It's somewhat of a never-wracking process although not all that difficult. I did however manage to break some of the snaps on the front bezel (the plastic frame around the screen with "MacBook" printed on it). The snaps are very thin plastic and are very easy to break when taking it off and putting it back on, even if you're being careful. A new one costs around $50 online, so be aware of this particular risk. In my opinion, the coolness of moding the logo was well worth the chance.

Want that laptop stand? make me an offer. I still have it, but never use it. I think I paid 80 dollars for it originally.

I'd love to do that, but i dread voiding the warranty and then needing some work done on it

No tutorial.
Basically, remove the screws from the screen frame. Then use a heat gun to loosen the epoxy that glues the screen frame to the hinges. Careful. If you pry, you will deform the screen frame.

is me opening the screen frame.
Be careful. opening even that wide can warp it.

shows how to change out the apple in the TiBook.
