And if you were on that site you would assume the boldly advertised return policy applies in what situation?

Does that mean you can't put the shoes on and walk in them? What reason would there be to return them if they weren't comfortable?

I'll bet there's a video of that somewhere on the Intarwebs.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

Glad you caught the phrasing.

In fact, the video inspired my post.

Well, I got a refund from Shoebuy. The complaint to the BBB did the trick. I don't even have to send my sneakers back, they say I can donate them to charity, which I will do.
So, instead of just doing the right thing in the first place it ends up costing them the cost of the sneakers plus the return shipping to me.

So they looked used enough to be unsaleable, eh?

I'd *really* like to see those photos.

Also, you effectively just bummed a pair of shoes off them - don't be surprised if this dunks your credit rating. I know over here mail-order companies maintain blacklists which are accessed by banks before they approve loans or credit. There's the "official" history, which you can look into, and then there's a couple of behind-the-scenes lists, which include commonness of defaulting by zip codes, and lists with negative marks like these.

No, They realized they were jerks and didn't want to pay to have them shipped back to them after wasting money shipping them back to me in the first place.
The BBB saw the photos. They was some carpet fuzz on the sole, obviously no wear.
This can't affect my credit rating, where are you getting this from? They made the offer to me through the BBB and I accepted the offer. That can't be held against me even if it were possible to report something like that to a credit agency, which I highly doubt.

It may be two pages, but this thread is a near-classic in my eyes.

Considering the OP's name, is it odd that the rest of MacNN played Devil's advocate?

No way in the US, they can't jack your credit for a credit card purchase.

Heck, they can't even access your credit w/o you supplying crucial information like SSN.

Official credit ratings are maintained by the big 3 (Experian, Transunion, Equifax), and for official credit check, any company needs your SSN.

And until you apply for credit or loan, or get sloppy with existing credit or loans, they can't just dink you for anything.

Ya think?

Quite the contrary, actually.

I'd be extremely surprised if such lists did not exist in the U.S. - especially Germany is generally pretty keen on privacy rights, and yet there's some sort of legal gray area that makes these lists possible.

German and U.S. credit ratings probably work in completely different ways; I have no idea.
[Edit: Thanks, Schildkröte]

Having worked in sales and service for a number of years, though, I no longer automatically give customers the benefit of the doubt. Most do not have a clear idea of what their rights are, and some are hell-bent on getting their way fully knowing that they're ripping somebody off but with a vague feeling that the law might be argued into their favor.

Apologies if I seemed (was) overly personal.

The BBB made a call, and they're in a position to make that call.

No problem. They have a 60 day return policy and I returned them in 48 hours. No way was I trying to rip them off. I worked in retail also and I had people try to return things that were over a year old. And got away with it.
I could sell these as new on ebay but I'm going to give it to charity.

So, shoebuy took the “get rid of the pest easily” route.

If you'd posted the pics in the first place this whole thing would have been easier on th OP. Instead by ignoring the repeated request and putting it off so long I think most members just sided with the store.

Personally this thread didn't so much turn me off of buying from the retailer as much as it made me think the poster was a whiney little girl

I was kinda busy on the 17th, so I missed your picture. No, my feets ain't that unique. Left 1/2 size larger than right with a different profile... That's more than enough to make me need to try them on before I buy a pair of shoes.

No, just practical. My feet aren't quite that hairy, but they're pretty odd looking. The "joke" on me is that I spent over 2 decades wearing combat boots-supposedly really well designed ones too-and wound up with bunions anyway. Ha ha.
