Grrr, has anyone come across this? I'm using an HP 4000TN over airport with 3 trays (2 full trays plus the manual feed). Worked great under tiger. Now, it will print, but I just can't select which tray it prints to. Tried re-installing the printer, etc... Nothing helps. Any clues as to how I can fix it?

I am having a similar problem. I choose the paper tray, and I can print to that tray, but I can't save the choice. I have to reset the tray every time. I reinstalled the driver, deleted all printing preferences, tried my prior preference files (from OS 10.4 that did work properly). The print driver will remember other setting, but not the paper tray. The driver knows the trays are there. I tried resetting the pref files permissions. Nothing seems to correct the problem. I have found no other discussions on this problem either (Maybe no one who upgraded to Leopard has the extra trays?).

I am having a similar issue. I can select the paper tray (in my case I tried tray 3) but it always prints to tray 2. It also will not save the selected paper tray

Weird that you are still having this problem. One of the early Leopard Updates fixed it for me. Now it will correctly print from the tray that I select. Although last week when I tried to print multiple copies of the same document, it printed all the page 1's together, then all the page 2's next. Kind of annoying. Is your OS up to date? Maybe try reinstalling the printer. GL.

I am running 10.5.2. Although my printer is HP 2100TN. I'll try to reinstall the printer drivers form the disk. Hoping I won't have to reinstall the entire OS.

That printer is a few years old, no? Make sure the driver that is available online is the same version that you have on your disk. If not, try the newer one (probably the one online). After the driver is installed, re-add the printer. I've had different results trying to add the printer from the System Preferences as opposed to directly from the Printer drop down from within an application. Although Leopard seems to make the process a little more uniform. Hopefully you won't have to re-install the OS.

Have you checked whether the additional trays have been added as options to the printer?
You can check them in the Sys Prefs > Printing & Faxing: select the printer in question and click in Options. Make sure all of the extra trays (and, e. g. duplexer) have been added.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

yes the printer is an older model. I have tried the updated printers from HP but to no avail. I have also made sure that Tray 3 is added as an option to the printer. I tried Gutenprint version and it allows me to select the tray but it defaults to the lowest quality and save toner options and won't let me change it. Maybe this weekend I will try and do an Archive and Install to see if it fixes it

Another tray-headache since Leopard:

When I put a sheet in the manual tray on my Brother DCP-8060 it is simply ignored, unless I choose explicitely manual tray in the paper feed dialog.

Reinstalling Leopard did not fix it.

I can select Tray 1 and it works. It just doesn't recognise Tray 3
