Apple has a submitted revised plans for the second phase of its Campus 2 project in Cupertino, California. Next to the main "spaceship" complex, the company is looking to build three research and development-related buildings on opposite sides of North Tantau Avenue. It already has approval for the construction, but the updated plans reveal specific details.
The North Tantau complex will measure 600,000 square feet, house an additional 2,200 workers, and come paired with parking for 1,740 cars. The primary building will measure four stories tall, and include its own cafeteria. The other two buildings --
listed as testing facilities -- will be half as high.
The revisions affect the size and heights of the buildings, the location of parking, and the nature of the parking garage. Apple had originally intended to build the parking into an underground basement, but is now aiming for a smaller basement linked to a larger above-ground garage, as well as underground server room. Inside the main office building, meanwhile, the the size of the cafeteria has been changed to allow more office space.
The North Tantau facilities were originally supposed to begin construction alongside the spaceship, but Apple ended up pushing them into the second phase in order to reduce construction costs. They still aren't wholly in the clear, as a Cupertino city hearing on the plans is scheduled for November 15.
