I think the Krusty icon was a definite improvement to my desktop.

Well, I posted here a LONG time ago (back on the first page!) but I figured I'd post again. There's nothing really special about my setup. I used to use a bunch of fancy addons, but I reverted to the elegant simplicity of plain old OS X. Well, plain X with my own theme!

So, here's a more recent pic:

LOL, I expected someone would ask.

That, my friend, is a hilarous old Nintendo game called Maniac Mansion. It's being emulated in RockNES. If you never got to play this game as a kid, I must say that you really missed out on a cult classic. I think I even remember having an old Nintendo Power magazine from 1990, IIRC, up in the attic with Maniac Mansion on the cover... man, those were the days...

Anyway, it's a humorous adventure game in a style very similar to Monkey Island, another classic and addictive game from the early 90's.

Oh I remember your older screenshot. I really dig the theme that you're working on. Anyway that we can get this working with MetamorphX? I think the slight 3D look to the menubars would add the perfect touch to the unlined charcoal themes.

Actually, it predates both NES and the 90s by quite a bit. I remember playing Maniac Mansion on my Commodore 128. It was a great game.

I think Grab did that because it's not on my desktop now. Just a bug from Grab, that's all. By the way, thanks for the compliment.

The app is called (drum roll, please) DesktopCalendar. You can find it through VersionTracker. I probably got Marvin at Xicons.

Have you tried running rootless X-windows (X-on-X)? I want to try and set it up, but 'm waiting to see if more people have done it... I on't have the time to play guinea pig right now!

I have X-on-X, but I'm intentionally not running it rootless. I kinda like it taking up the full screen, it helps me keep both screens less cluttered.

I can all too easily see myself getting burried in a sea of OS X, Classic, and X-Window windows.

Norm,

Great desktop. Three questions though ...

First, what is the calendar program you are using?

Second, the folder icons rock. Are those from Xicons?

Finally, What is going on in the upper right hand corner of the screen? It looks like Grab's icon and some application are surrounding the clock.

Thanks in advnace.

Well, I"m not NORM but I can answer one of your questions. The calendar is called "Desktop Calendar" and can be d/led from www.versiontracker.com.

What I am wondering is how big a monitor does NORM have?

OK, I'm game.

Here's my desktop.

Nothing special, just OS X on my titanium w/ some small hacks. That strip running down the side of my screen is my much-loved DragThing 4.0. I basically use the dock as a more animated version of DragThing's Process Dock and as a temporary version of the control strip as well (volume, itunes, prefling docklings).

wingdo,

First off jagga's right. The program is called "Desktop Calender and you can find it Version Tracker.

Second, the icons can all be found at Xicons, except for Spiffy Apps V which can be found at http://www.icons.cx/. The icon sets found at Xicons are called MM Titanium, Organize X, Carlito's Aqua Folders, Dock-Ups, Virtual Heads, and finally Gundam Wing Pilots.

Finally, that little icon on the upper right of the screen (right of the clock) is from a freeware utility called ASM. It brings the Mac OS 9 application menu to Mac OS X. The thing left of the clock is from a freeware utility called Launcher (which also can be found at Version Tracker) which not only brings the Launcher to OS X but also brings a menu of all your Launcher items to OS X.

Thanks for the compliments all.

Hope this helps.

Norm
