Is it smart?
Is it smart to give 2.500 $ to Apple for a machine that is 16 moths old?
Should not they be arount 1.800 now?...

Just my thoughts, I need a PM so I will buy a dual 2 as the 2.5 does "not" exist, but it hurts me plenty to buy such an old machine for so many $...

Tell us the specs of the machine - really hard to tell if the machine is worth it without them!

Well the speed is the same as the same original Dual G5 but many of the internals have changed since last fall, including an upgraded logic board I believe.

Try looking at it as an updated Dual 2.0ghz G5 that's fallen in price by 17% since it was first released.

Do get the $50 video card upgrade as a BTO configuration. It's a much faster card.

Consider getting the ram from www.crucial.com They have excellent customer service, top notch ram and you'll save a fair amount of dough in the process.

. yep, not really extra super happy about the updates, true water cooling makes the machine dead silent...
. the updated video is a MUST HAVE I git that!
. and I indeed read everywhere that Crucial Rocks obviously... I need to import it from the States as it is double the price in EU (and noone can explain me why..)

Thanks for your support anyway, I will buy the machine ASAP, but I think $ wise, I will need a few weeks to do it!

re-furb is the way to go if you aren't going for the top of the line... but certainly it's better to get a lot of RAM and a great video card (especially with 10.4 coming out), than it is to eek out .2GHZ for the same money.
Mac Pro 3.0, ATI 5770 1GB VRAM, 10GB, 2xVelociraptor boot RAID, 4.5TB RAID0 storage, 30" & 20" Apple displays.
2 x Macbook Pro's 17" 3.06 4 GB RAM, 256GB Solid State drives
iMac 17" Core Duo 1GB RAM, & 2 iPhones 8GB, and a Nano in a pear tree!
Apple user since 1981

I went refurb for the top of the line and have no regrets over the $200.00 savings for a DP 2.5 that had essentially been ensured to be in perfect working order and shipped out in <hold your hats people who ordered in June> 2 business days </hold your hats people who ordered in June>.

As one of those who ordered in June, count me as one of those that would be envious of you getting 2 day delivery. Unfortunately I think Apple only sells refurbs to the US. Us Canadians can't even get one.

Ho well, I got my G5 DP2.5 and you have yours. Congrats.

I concur with tooki - I have actually used the Disc from my G5 on my G4 Yikes! box to install from when i could not find my Regular Panther discs. And I agree with everyone else here stay away from 10.1 not worth the trouble or headaches you will have.
