i own an ibook g4. i didnt get bluetooth as an optional extra when i bought it but now, 12 months on my local apple re-seller is telling me i cant have a bluetooth chip fitted! am i the only one that thinks theyre talking out of their arses!!??

I think they're right. If I recall correctly you get a different logic board, fitted with the Bluetooth electronics, if you order Bluetooth.

Back when Bluetooth wasn't standard, it was noted very clearly that you cannot get Bluetooth installed after-the-fact.

no sweat, just get a usb bluetooth module. works great.

I have the same problem, so I bought the d-link dbt-120 a year or so ago works great just not as convenient as internal BT.

I was quoted a price for the cost of parts and labor by and Apple tech (at a certified repair facility), but it would have come to 3 times the price of getting it BTO. It would have voided the warranty as well. So, it can be done for a price. I have yet to need it so.....maybe a big fast hard drive instead.

If it's done by an Apple Certified Technician, then it wouldn't void the warranty.

Review the above replies-YES it is, but it's difficult and expensive, and it's better just to get a USB Bluetooth adapter (note the D-Link model in macfantn's post above).
