(Updated with OS X banner) Apple is already displaying a banner for iOS 7 in Moscone West in San Francisco, the venue for next week's Worldwide Developers Conference, photos indicate. The banner features a thin "7" in the rainbow colors of the WWDC 2013 logo. Behind the number is an image of a white, perforated surface.

Apple has previously announced that it will show the next versions of iOS and OS X at WWDC, but putting up an iOS 7 banner now is an unusually open admission given that the company hasn't formally revealed the firmware's name. The update is expected to be a major overhaul, ditching the skeuomorphism present in previous iOS releases in favor of a "flat" look.

An unveiling should take place during Apple's WWDC keynote, which starts at 10AM Pacific time on Monday.

Update: An OS X banner has also gone up, with a thin "X" over top of a cresting wave.

An "X" over a "cresting wave"? Or an "X" over "Aqua"?? hmmmm.....
In the end, its all about the composition.

They're skinny alright. Still, there's nothing like the understated beauty of Neue Helvetica 25 Ultra Light.

Oh, I get it. The skinny 7 and X stays within the same font family as the WWDC.

No clue on what the hints are here. That X over the wave or aqua has me confused.....was hoping for a live stream for Monday's event. Can't wait!

Wonder too, considering the wave, if Apple is moving away from the "cat" association with each Mac OS X version.

@phayd:

The (lip) pitch is scary vertical...Mavericks.
A local break.

Using Mavericks as an example, how about sharks: Great White, seeing that Mavericks is smack dab at the southern end of the Red Triangle.

Just a thought.
