Microsoft has revealed it is holding an event
in New York early next month, and has started to invite members of the media to attend. The event, taking place on the morning of October 6, is apparently major enough to be broadcast live online and via the Xbox One
game console, with the hints from the software giant so far advising there will be some "exciting news" concerning Windows 10
The Windows 10 device hint doesn't say exactly what kind of hardware to expect, but it is likely to involve smartphones and tablets. Candidates include new Lumia smartphones
, with rumors suggesting this will consist of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. There is also the strong possibility of a fourth generation of Surface tablet being shown, as well as updates for the Microsoft Band
wearable device, and maybe even the Hololens
The event may also offer updates for existing devices. Aside from Windows Insider testing, Microsoft has yet to release a version of Windows 10
for mobile devices, something it may formally launch at the event for smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1. The Xbox One is also expected to receive an update later this year, one which will bring it closer to Windows 10 in appearance as well as introducing new features, so it too may make an appearance at the event.
