A few months ago my long served TiBook died. I couldn't get it to start up, as it would just demonstrate a black screen after it fell and suffered great case damage. Anyway, I had my essential files backed up but I would still like to have a few left on the hard drive. Is there anyway I can recover the data on the hard disc?

As long as the hard drive still functions you could take it out and put it in an enclosure. Something like this should work:
Newegg.com - Rosewill RX81U-ES-25B 2.5" IDE to USB 2.0 External Enclosure - External Enclosures

All glory to the hypnotoad.
