Anyone else get this?
It has happened to me while I'm using the search tool application or while browsing the web. I'm the in the middle of doing something and I'll just get kicked out to the home screen.
It is pretty frustrating as it does not remember what I was last doing and I have to start all over again.
I know I'm not hitting the home button inadvertently.
Any help would be appreciated

Yep, it sometimes does that. Nothing you can really do to prevent it, as far as I know.

Thanks for your reply.
The phone is so solid otherwise. I completely love it. But this is a pretty big hiccup. It's almost like a running out of memory error.
Be intresting to know just how many people this has happened to and how frequently.
Apple needs to address this if it is happening to more than just a few people.

Found this and so far it worked (Will update if things change):
ISSUE TWO: APPS CRASHING / QUITTING UNEXPECTEDLY
Late Sunday night, and the first half of Monday, I was experiencing nearly all of my applications unexpectedly quitting and the iPhone returning to the home screen. I was able to make it consistent with certain applications. With the map app, I'd simply zoom and move around in satellite made and it would quit everytime. If I zoomed in with Safari, to a certain portion of a web page, and then moved around, it would quit unexpectedly too. Same thing with the photo app.
I don't know why this fix didn't occur to me sooner, but simply turning the iPhone off and then on again fixed this issue. I think it's safe to say that there's really no intuitive way to know how to shut the iPhone off without actually reading the manual. By holding the button on the top of the phone AND the home button for a few seconds, the iPhone will present you a slider with which to confirm that you actually want to shut the phone off. At the bottom of the screen there's a button to cancel and go back to the home screen. I slid the fader to off, powered the iPhone back on by holding the top button for a few seconds, and was back in action after the restart.
I seriously hope this helps somebody. Happy iPhone-ing!

I can consistently get the iPod app to crash by switching over to Safari while music is playing. I haven't tried shutting down/restarting, so I'll give that a shot.

I haven't had the iPod program die on me, but Safari usually crashes on me at least once if I spend at least 60 minutes browsing the web.

Safari has developed a nasty habit of crashing. Powering off seems to help for a while but it comes back after a bit.

Sad but glad to see that it is not just me. Sounds like a fixable software bug that I'm sure Apple will address...
Is there a place on Apple's website to submit feedback such as this?

I'd like to hear if those people continuing to experience iPhone crashes back to the home screen have tried the iPhone reboot advice given above, and whether it worked for them. I think you only have to hold the Wake/Sleep button down until the shutdown slider comes on screen to shut it down. Then press the Wake/Sleep button again and it will restart with the Apple logo appearing on screen during the startup.

I shut down / restart my phone at least once a day (no point in leaving it on overnight while I'm sleeping). The Safari crashing problems seems random. When it crashes I'll go back to the page I was viewing and Safari won't crash a 2nd time in a row on that page.

I guess routinely rebooting/shutting down at night is a viable approach, but I'd prefer to just stick it in my dock each night to recharge (along with its bluetooth headset).

I just had safari lock up on me for the first time. Since there's no way to force quit an application, I had to just power cycle the phone.

Apple says holding the Home button for 5 seconds will force quit a frozen app.
