What is the best System for a Mac Plus 1MB?

I hope to have it networking with my Dual Gig G4, B/W g3 and TiBook via a ethernet hub. If I cannot get a SCSI/Ethernet bridge I will try via my Ethernet/Local Talk adapter!

I think you're stuck with System 6.0X or something.

Apple says System 7.5.5, but I don't even want to think about that with 1 MB! Apple must mean 7.5.5 is supported if it's got enough RAM.

I think 6.0.8 is as far as the 6.x line went. Could be wrong as it has been some time. And for all the really old timers out there, anyone remember under which version did the font mover and da mover became font/da mover?

6.0.8 is as far as System 6 went, and requires 2 MB RAM for minimum usage. 4 MB is needed for internet connectivity (I was the guy to originally provide the System 6 Internet Connection Kit). System 7 requires 4 megs RAM, and System 7.5 requires 8. You can get most the old OS's here.

System 6 was the last OS that could successfully be fit onto a disk. (7 & 7.5 could but it wasn't worth using.) For fun's sake, I'd throw System 3 on it or something. It will run System 0.97 (1.0) as well.

I had an SE which I upgraded to 6.08, and connected to my network via an appletalk/ethernet bridge.

It had a 10 or 20 meg hard drive, and just 1 meg of ram.

That was adaquate to run and early version of MS word. MacWrite and MacPaint (I think it was called) also ran fine.

It printed fine to my appletalk postcript printer, as well as fileshared.

I still have it, and would continue to leave it hooked up, but I don't have space for it now.

My Mac Plus was upgraded to 4 MB at a user group party. It ran System 7.1 very well. Its external SCSI hard drive was 45 MB.

As it happens, I ran Font/DA Mover just last night, and successfully got a Classic app to run with music fonts installed. But I don't recall when they merged.
