I watched my cousin die of lung cancer when I was 12. Ever watch someone slowly choke to death and drown over a month?

Hate to tell you this, but most of the greatest thinkers of our time have been and are smokers. If we would live by your claim, this would be a pretty sad world.

Camel filters. I smoke 'em. I don't smoke when I drink, though.
When I feel like it, when I am stressed, when I want to basically. Some days nothing, other days a whole pack.

I would never be stupid enough to START smoking in the first place. Everyone I know that smokes wanted to smoke. It takes like crap at first, you have to learn to breath it in and like the taste, so why in the hell would you start in the first place? Cuz you look so cool, want to lose weight or are stressed. Ya great reasons.
I have asthma because my dad smoked when my mom was pregnant, I get second hand smoke all the time when I am at a bar or a restaurant. It is disgusting and disrespectful.
You want to smoke and kill yourself go nuts but do it outside or in your own house.

I think that goes for a lot of smokers. Myself included. I've never been physically able to smoke a whole pack in one day though. That's intense. But, I smoke strong cigs. Meh.

Sorry people; smoking cannabis, jane, marajuana, etc/whatever is also smoking, and in most respects, worse for you since it isn't filtered. Your lungs clog up and get cancer at the same rate as tobacco smokers. So if you smoke pot, you have to vote yes.

some studies suggest THC is a cancer inhibitor, though. so they'll die just from clogged lungs and lost brain cells. it's cancer for the rest of us.

Freaking sweet. So have they conducted test with cancerous rats and a more effective THC delivery system? (adding it to their food).
Can they even isolate THC very effectively? Will we see THC poppers on the streets soon? What ever happened to Vanilla Ice? Why did Apple discontinue the Newton? How big is the universe? Where is God in all of this? How long does it take an ant with a wooden leg to kick a watermellon to pieces? Will I be able to understand the Intermediate Value Theorem and the Precise definition of a limit and how to do Epsilon/Delta problems in time for my midterm on Wednesday?
Tune in next time for the answer to all these questions!

I don't smoke. I also don't wish cancer on those who do... My dad smoked 4 packs a day and died (we think) from a complication of Bronchitis and other unrelated extenuating circumstances.
He wanted to quit. When he started smoking, there wasn't anything known about the dangers.
I don't begrudge him having smoked, I just regret it, for him.
Anyone who smokes today SHOULD know abou the dangers and the expense, and should make an informed choice. I don't understand choosing to smoke as a choice I would make personally, but hey, life is short anyways.

It's available by prescription under the trade name Marinol. But since THC alone (there are hundreds of other active agents in cannabis) doesn't do all that much, it's not as effective as the other legal alternatives.

Gimme a plant and a high school lab (hell, you can do it in your back yard if you really want to), and even I can isolate the THC pretty damn well. VERY high street value. Much better for you too.
THC oil... no smoke, no carcinogens, ~70% pure THC, and about 5 times as much impact per $$ of weed.
Oh, and the universe is (very roughly) possibly about 1.288079e+23 km across.
Vanilla Ice? Nobody knows...

Yes, smoking inside in public places is wrong (except for pubs, for obvious reasons). I don't even smoke near people that don't like it (I don't smoke very often at all, actually).

Very true. I only smoke because it keeps my occupied. I'm one of those people that has to be doing something every waking minute. Why do you think I spend so much time here? Watching television annoys me... you just sit there.

I've explained this before. I don't smoke much. When I do it's usually Marlboro reds, or more often Winfield reds (16mg) - because I can never find 555's, which are the best.
If I can be bothered I roll my own. Port Royal Rum & Wine. Best tobacco ever. Well, apart from the expensive import stuff... yum. Filterless, of course. Filters are for pussies.

If you'll reread my statement a little more carefully, you'll realize that it made no judgements whatsoever about people who smoke pot.
As for the tobacco smokers:
- I hate the way they smell.
- I hate the way their used ashtrays look and smell.
- I hate the way, when I inadvertantly share a room, a car, or an elevator with a smoker (even one who's not smoking at the moment), that my clothes pick up that stale tobacco smell.
- I hate they way they litter the streets and parks with cigarette butts.
- I hate the way their second-hand smoke makes innocent people sick.
- I hate the way their lack of concern for their own well-being increases our society's health-care costs, and ultimately my insurance rates.
- And -- for many of them -- I hate their arrogance, for demanding that they have the "right" to impose all of the above on the people around them.

Life is not about appeasement. I don't like to see people wearing bright clothes or large hats - do they have to stop doing something they enjoy just for me?
What about music? I hate the music my roommate listens to (Cake, 311, Sublime, etc...blech) but I don't demand that he stop listening to music when I'm around.

If those bright clothes and large hats happen to also be releasing carcinogens into the air that other people have to breathe ... then, yeah.

1. Me too.
2. As opposed to normal garbage bins? Do you hate garbage bins and the people that use them too? That's a pretty silly gripe.
3. Me too.
4. Generalisation. Same could be said about *any* person. Goddamn potato chip eaters... they should all die.
5. Generalisation. As I said, I don't smoke at ALL around non-smokers.
6. Same could be said about people who eat fast food; and don't work out; and... come on. That's just ridiculous.
7. Again, generalisation, but at least you acknowledge it.

Hating someone for smoking Tobacco is stupid.
Smoking can do horrible things for people, and the effects of nicotine can start to affect you really badly mentally. It's sad to see some people just whither away, smoking cigarette after cigarette.
Even smoking occasionally won't do you any good, and if the nicotine doesn't affect you very much, well good for you. For some people, like my aunt, it affects them very much. After all it is a drug.

Nicotine has effect one ones nervous system. Which effects your brain.
I know sense I stopped smoking I can get to sleep a lot easier. And I don't feel as stressed out as I did when I was smoking.
I know people think when they smoke a cig, they are going to calm down, but in reality this isn't true. Nicotine raises the heart rate, and such. You just feel more relaxed because your body got the nicotine it was craving. And type of addiction has psychological effects on a person.
