price and everything else aside what would offer the longest battery life? brand new ibook 12" G4 1GHZ with OS X or IBM Thinkpad T23 P3 with slackware linux?

I have to option of geting one or the other and battery life is a must.

uh.. who knows?!

does linux do power saving? if so just go find some reviews and find out what the battery life is.

generally ibm thinkpads aren't known for their battery life, but for their solid build quality.. i'd get an ibook.

would you rather run osx or linux?

I don't think Linux has very good power savings. At least Yellow Dog on my iBook doesn't. I am lucky to get a little over 2.5 hours. With OSX I can get as much as 4.5 hours sometimes longer if I turn Airport off.

no preference realy as OS X is a form of unix. From what I understand about linux is the new 2.6 has much improved power management but its still somewhat new no distros actualy come with it at this time you have to upgrade to it.
