Hi, I'm a happy Victorinox user. I can't be without my Voyager Lite. I chose it because of it's functionality, I use the knife, pen , alarmclock, lamp, scissors and toothpick most. This is the 3rd same knife I bought within a year, I should put it on a chain
Though some people might think you don't need a knife in this modern world I can't agree with that, a good knife is really conveniant for many daily purposes.
I am curious what is your favorite knife.

A Mission Knives MPF-1.
Had been looking for a titanium knife with a serrated edge for ages.
For a multi-tool, I've always been partial to Gerbers for their one handed opening.

I have a Viktorinox soldier, very happy with it. It's made entirely of metal (= very manly), but is conveniently small.

Hmm, it really doesn't seem like it's been over a year since we discussed this. Strange.

Let's see. I don't usually carry one on my person (I work in fMRI, and the consequences for forgetting one in my pocket would be interesting to say the least), but I keep several in my desk in the lab. I've got a Opinel No.8 (my absolute favorite for cheap but great), a Victorinox locking 4" and the Victorinox multitool (the Swiss Army Knife that wants to be a leatherman when it grows up).
And yes, they're very useful to have around - computers / boxes / anything else...

For basic utility while hiking and camping, I love my Gerber MkII
I also have a number of Victorinox knives for a variety of uses. My favorites are my Classic SD (in blue) and my Soldier (in red).
I also have things like a basic Gerber Multi-tool, but I don't count that as a "knife" as much as a "tool with a knife in it."

I carried one of these everywhere until I got popped by New York's finest for "criminal possession of a weapon". (The thumb-lever made it a "single-handed operation knife" which is illegal in NYC. My crime was mouthing off to the cops. When they had me in cuffs and found the knife then they told me *why* I was under arrest. The f***ers and their enhanced policing powers due to 9/11.) Ever since then I stick to a basic Victorinox Swiss Army type knife.

I used to have a Swiss Champ that my dad got me for my 9th birthday, but it either got stolen out of my car or lost somewhere in my bed room. My brother got me a more standard sized see-through model to replace it (somewhat like PB2K's except without the clock), and it comes in quite handy.

I have a multitude of knives (necessary for both work and recreation).
Notable models:
Tusa XPert (diving knife)
Gerber Freeman Hunter
Leatherman Supertool 200
Ka-bar ripoff (very decent ripoff)
Winchester something or other (small foldable)
Excalibur something or other (small foldable - had this going on 13 years now)
Swiss Card
Many other miscellaneous knives and machetes.
I do a lot of outdoor work.

I have a Buck, a small Gerber and a couple Kershaws (ncluding the ET below, which I got a while back. It's nice, but still feels too much like a novelty so I rarely carry it).
Surprisingly, the knives I carry the most are the cheap knives that I bought off TV a few years ago. They're pretty cheezy, but since I don't care what happens to them, they see a lot of duty.

Looks very similar to the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairbai...Fighting_Knife
Old british designed knife designed for the Fairbairn method of assault and murder.

Most of the knives here look more like weapons to me rather than tools … what are you guys doing with them that require them to be that sharp and large?

after a year you still don't see the difference between a utility knife and a fighting knife?

hmm, well a combat knife looks like this it comes with a sharpener and a smaller knife. Gorkha families all have one as it's traditional but it's kinda hard to ignore the military use of it and regard it as a tool

I used to have a knife like this (but a little bigger) when I was about 12, trying to compensate for the fact that I was shorter than everyone else at the time.
These days I just carry around a very generic pocket knife.

i don't see the point in carrying a combatknife too, except if you are a an oldstyle vigilante. we are wandering off too much. this is about utilityknives that you carry most of the time. I do see the practical point for the Tusa diving knife, it looks like a great seatbelt-cutter too, I'm afraid the police won't buy that story though.

This thread has taught us a lesson.

That would be one interpretation...
Actually the Mark II is great for everything from digging to cutting sticks for kindling to stripping bark from logs. Oh, and for skinning, filleting, and so on too, but I have never used mine for that.

Here's a pic of my knife. Well, not my personal knife but one of the same make and model.
My government won't let me have anything sharper.

Microtech SOCOM Elite
Swiss Buck (Partnership between Buck and Wenger) Advantage- Although I usually prefer Victorinox to Wenger, the Swiss Buck is far and away my favorite "Swiss Army knife".

I have several traditional style Kukri (they are a traditional weapon in my style of martial art) as well as two of the Cold Steel model pictured above- it's the model officially endorsed by the American Bando Association.
