I'm trying to figure out if any of the PCIe SSD's currently available are compatible with a first gen Mac Pro 1,1

Say just for example, PCIe SSD Mini Cards which are supposed to be for netbooks, and are much more affordable if somewhat low in storage size. Now there may be other pitfalls with these SSD mini cards in particular (mlc versus slc ssd's) but that's why I'm posting!

Just trying to think out of the SATAII connection 'box' AND do it more affordably...

Thanks for constructive replies!

All PCIe solid state drives that I've seen require drivers to work, which SATA-attached SSDs do not. I haven't seen any that have Mac drivers, and in any case it would be tricky to boot from one.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

The mini PCIe SSDs for netbooks won't fit in your Mac Pro's PCIe slots. I guess you could stuff one in the Airport slot, I wonder if that would work.

But why bother? The slow 40GB SATA SSDs are below $100.
