this is my last day with 9.2.2.
got a new harddrive to install tomorrow...and osx.

i have 9.2.2 customized to perfection, everything works great.

but it's time to move forward, and be there when apps ONLY exist for x (as is starting to happen, a little anyway)

so, a tear for 9, a great os.

i've been on "X"

for three days, and i will NEVER go back.

the finder's a little sluggish on my g3 powerbook, but overall, everything works beautifully, the system makes sense. FEELS great.

have already started customizing, etc.

a few more app upgrades & even classic will be unnecessary.
it's surprisingly easy to adapt to working in the new os...

so for real, bye 9.2.2!

(see u all in the future!)

I still go back to do real work, too. (500Mhz G4)

Printing is extremely slow again after 10.2.4...
Eventually they will work it out in software or throw a much faster chip on the problem so that we won't notice/care.

Waiting for my new/used dual 1 Ghz (Quicksilver) to make me eat my words...

hmmm...printing seems same for me (epson).
upgraded all my major apps (indesign, photoshop, dreamweaver mx, reason, logic, etc)

need classic for 1 important app, a few rarely-used apps.

everything else works great.

love the stability, interface, etc.

see u in the X forum... (sooner or later)

Hmm. I can't remember the last time I used OS 9. I had it on my system for a while after installing X but have recently gotten rid of it entirely. I don't need it for anything anymore.

with it, X does everything I want and need it to do. My workflow is all X now.

This's taken some time (when did X come out??) but for anyone just coming to the Mac now they should be able to work in X from the outset.

What're you guys doing in 9 that qualifies as too "real" for X?

Part of me wishes I could do the same but I have trouble justifying it. I have my current collection (barring the 140 in the closet) on 9.2.2 and all of my connected hardware just works. I've played with X and think its quite nice, but for the first time in my 20 year apple life, I've had enough willpower to refrain from the upgrade to the newest________.

My logic (supported based on the fact that I don't need any X only app for work) is that until the 970 (or some other g5ish thing) and I can run x and sim city 4 without annoying delays, I'm staying put.

YOu have no idea how difficult it is to resist the "oh, just one more thing" products.

a couple audio apps (t-racks, and recycle).

plus resedit...

that's it. so soon, (especially when recycle gets to "X") i'm gonna live fulltime with the jaguar (and his offspring)

I think yall are nuts for using 9.whatever for so long. But then, I'm not running a G3.

Graphics? 3D? Video? OSX just doesn't cut it on my machine for that. Barely cuts it for normal use (doesn't sometimes).

I was at work today refurbing some beige Powermac G3's running 8.6. Talk about a speed demon. I would have never known 233MHz was so slow

stopping by classic...

3 weeks later, i am perfectly happy on osx.
inDesign, photoshop, all my music apps (except 2 i need to run in classic) work perfectly.
i can print! hotsync! firewire works better! i don't keep losing my midi connection (goodbye oms!!)

the stability, the gui, the logic of it...love it.

wish i could get more speed, my powerbook g3/400 struggles sometimes to keep up, but still...

come on over, the water's fine...

If your PowerBook G3 is the Pismo type then you can get a 500 MHz PowerPC G4 upgrade card for about $299 (includes installation) which will really speed it up.
