Well, I hate them too, so I updated my patch to kill the banners in AIMX 4.5.651 (the version that got released today).

Above is a link to a Classic patch (does anyone know of a utility for Mac OS X that can create patches?) that will kill the banners in AIMX, and resize the window so everything fits very nicely.

havent had a chance to look at the patch, but my bet is you need to use resedit. check out www.resexcellence.com

huh? Um, no, I already made the patch. I used ResEdit and ResCompare.
The patch is already finished, I just posted the link for anyone that wanted to get rid of the banners.

While the patch is great, I still recomend the third party AIM clients, especially Adium, then comes Proteus (good for multiple accounts, but I only use AIM, even then rarely). That tabbed interface simply rocks! Really nice Aqua interface.
iChat looks interesting.
