As someone who came late to the Harry Potter party ( I was in High School at the time, and strongly believed they were solely for little kids, despite the fuss I was hearing on the media saying otherwise), I never though I would have interest in the story.

When my best friend started prodding me to at least check it out a few months before the seventh book came out, I finally gave in and was quickly hooked. Upon the release of the seventh book and had finished reading it, I can say honestly, there is nothing childish about the story, especially at the end.

Being as I was so late to it, I felt a little disappointed that I had missed all the excitement as the series progressed and wished I had started sooner.

Fortunately, I feel that I was given a second chance when the collectors edition of Beedle the Bard was announced. Despite the high costs, I purchased a copy, and am glad that I did, knowing that the proceeds are going to a worthy cause.

I recently received it and am impressed with the quality, both as the writing and the tome itself.

I'm a huge HP fan, but I just can't justify $100 for that.

I tried liking HP, but I gave up with the first book.

Instead, I re-read LOTR every couple o years.

Make sure you check out the standard version. Although it's a short read, it's Rowling in her element.

Here in Aus, it's $9.95 whatever that is in american ($4?)

That's all its worth TBH, a couple of cute stories, but doesn't really add anything to the story

It's $100 for the Amazon-exclusive special edition. It looks hand-written and comes in a box that looks like one of the ancient tomes from the movies.

The paperback version is $7.95.

I'd say watch the first two movies for background and then start with the third book. The first couple of books in the series are by far the weakest and most juvenile IMO. The third book is where it starts getting good, the fourth is very good and the fifth is just plain great.

I also bought the collectors edition and love it. I'm a fan of both the books an movies which is what lead me to purchasing The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

I'm very much looking forward to The Half-Blood Prince movie. It, and The Deathly Hallows are my favorite books of the series. Having the release date pushed ahead so far forward upset me. I could accept if there where delays in filming or something similar. Unfortunately it's just good old fashioned greed. The movie is complete and private screenings have been taking place for months now. The movie studio feels it will make more money in the spring as opposed to a winter release. Good for business though not so for fans.

From what I understand, it's not quite as clearly a case of "screw the fans, let's make money" as all that. Thanks to the writers strike, Hollywood doesn't quite have as much lined up for the coming months as it normally would, so the studios don't want to shoot their big guns too early and have nothing anybody cares about for months on end.

I see your point and it makes sense to me. This type of thing probably happens more often than I realize and since I'm a Harry Potter fan it had more of an impact. Oh well, patients is a virtue...
