Having seen how useful a roaming video camera into Skype on PC is, I wonder, is it feasible to input an external video (or stills) camera into iMac, via USB or Firewire and have it available as a webcam source ?

I want higher quality and portability / useablity than an external webcam.

Perhaps even a 2.4ghz or similar system with USB output !

(I also have Formac Studio)

Perhaps there's even an app that allows hot switching between built in iSight and external camera ?

Again, for IM clients such as Skype.

Similarly for transmitting, real time, a video source, such as movie , AVI etc of iMac.

Will iChat do this?

Would you be able to use an external iSight camera?

Video camera = higher quality, wider angle, zoom capability etc

Here's a couple of Apple OSX drivers for external non mac USB webcams, which I found work very well with a cheapy Labtec webcam, whilst doing research, though the Labtec webcam itself is pretty low quality. (But then it was only £1.29 from Amazon UK)

Version with different menus:
HackTV Carbon

macam Downloads

Very similar apps, perhaps related in some way ?

One interesting point, using HackTVCarbon, whilst the Labtec records at its stated 352x288 x , the internal iSight records at 1600x1200, for anyone that wants to know the iMac resolution, on my iMac anyway.
