video from across the street. Someone should get their ass chewed for not having that area secured. Talk about your "grassy knoll"

If that person had wanted to careen into traffic, they chose purposely not to.

Alex Jones? My mother saw the clip on Facebook and asked what the hell were they doing there? Belive me she is NO Trump fan. Did you see the second clip that was directly across the street from the trees? It looks really odd, no street or parking lot is visible. They decide to take a drive through the trees when they brakes failed? In the first clip you can see the exits from the parking lots were blocked off, with PD standing along side the barricades. Somehow the stand of trees was left unguarded.

What are you talking about?

A car flying out of the woods is odd. The presence of the motorcade has no bearing on whether it's odd. I'm not claiming correlation.

I think I've seen similar scenes to that video in Smokey and the Bandit.

Didn't Adam West's Batcave have a secret entrance in some woods? Did they ever leave that way?

You should listen to your mother more about Trump and less about stray cars.

Here is the second angle from across the street. Odd that area appears to not secured by the PD as the other sections of the street are. It looks like they were lying in wait and mistimed when to pop out.

Wow that takes a stretch to see that as a deliberate act. The car is going no speed and obviously tries to take avoiding action as soon as the driver see's a road ahead.

Tbh my take on that video is just how insane the numbers of cars there are in that motorcade. I mean really? When did the need to keep the leader of your country so insulated tip over into madness.
The year before last, Obama landed at Fairford here in the UK, which is where my daughters live and it was security madness.

I personally have bumped into the Prime Minister of our country coming out of a supermarket and have him say sorry for bumping into ME! I have also had a senior member of the royal family just walk into my repair shop.

I understand that if the President wasn't cocooned like this he wouldn't make it to lunchtime, but doesn't that tell you something somewhere has gone rather wrong?

A friend of mine's (at the time) tweenage daughter was walking the dog and clotheslined John Major with the leash.

She goes, "excuse YOU".

This sounded right when I first read it. But after thinking about it - I don't believe it is literal. Most people talk politics, and yelling can be involved. But people don't shoot or beat those they dislike on sight. Most days nothing would happen. People would just get up and sit at other tables.

As an aside, I've been a somewhat keen observer of how our remembrance of 9/11 has changed as time passes.

This feels like the year we "got over it".

Might possibly be the difference between regional and/or metro philosophies.

I saw more 9/11 photos/memorials across my timelines than ever.

Not a surprise, internal patriotism relies on who's in office

A couple of huge hurricanes are filling the news with something close to actual news, so there's not as much room for a bunch of 9/11 re-hashing.

Could America be convinced to offer Trump in tribute to the next hurricane? Tie him to a pole on a roof right in its path, that sort of thing.

I mean, disregarding profit, current events that affect people across the country are more newsworthy.

There's absolutely going to be regional differences, and I don't really do the Facebook, so I'm not getting it from that vector.

Though, Facebook memorials reminds me a little of an Onion headline from 2001... "fly the flag, it's literally the least you can do".

I'll admit, I'm talking a little more about the lead-up before the day.

I usually don't pay a lot of attention on the day itself, because it's my birthday.

Can anyone imagine Trump taking part in this kind of appeal with all the former presidents? Reading Obama's twitter feed, seeing him retweet GW... they may be across the aisle but they respect each other.

All the presidents do. I think there's a brotherhood there where they have bonded from having experienced such a singular position.

^^ Absolutely. In terms of being mired in DC's shitshow of lobbyists, they're all far worse. Every one of them left the presidency far more wealthy than they entered.

Do we have records of presidents' revenue streams while in office and after? Is it more than speaking engagements and book deals?

The speaking engagements are how the lobbyists pay them back, they certainly aren't making 100s of $millions$ off the $100 a plate dinners.

If you genuinely believe that won't be the case with Trump, then you either believe his business interests outside of office are headed for tough times for some reason or its time for you to call it a day and have yourself sectioned. Everyone can see him milking the government coffers for his own personal gain at every opportunity.

I really don't, the lobbyists on all sides are mad as hell at him, and to me, that's a very positive thing.

Given that he takes no salary and doesn't use the (rather large) presidential expense account? Likely to break even.
