I second that... they don't check... otherwise I would have been hassled.

Saved some on my 12" PB.

Interesting... I thought they would at least ask for some proof of membership of a HE Institution to be sent or faxed over or something? Why doesn't everyone just go to the Education discount store?

Just need to clarify that I'm following along. Are you all saying that you can buy off the "education" section of the Apple Store website and they don't verify that you are indeed a student or faculty member?

That would be awesome, not that I'd ever do such a thing if I weren't legit...

From the store.apple.com website:
Who is Eligible To Purchase
The following education individuals are eligible to purchase through the Apple Store for Education individuals:

* Employee of public or private K-12 institutions in the United States
* School Board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members
* PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers
* Qualified homeschools
* Employee of a public or private, profit or non-profit preschool

Qualifying purchases per academic school year (July 1 - June 30):

* Power Mac, iMac, eMac, PowerBook, or iBook - One per year
* Printers - One per year
* Displays - Two per year
* Software - Two per year

Agreement
I agree that I am a member of one of the defined groups above eligible to purchase and that the products being purchased direct from Apple Computer, Inc. are for my own personal, education, and/or research use.
If Apple found out, they could indict you for fraud. Play it safe, or you might not be able to post for a few years (no macs in jail).

i hear they actually check the first time (or if you use a .edu email address, they don't check), and then they won't hassle you again.
