Friend and I loaded Tiger and it took over 1/2 hour to just load languages. He said " have to figure out how to delete/uninstall" How does one do this - and does it have down side?

use one of these applications to remove localizations. there are no downsides to removing them, provided you don't intend to ever use other languages and it will free up space on your drive.

Just unselect them when you first install and you don't have to wait or waste space in the first place.

If I run Delocalizer in Tiger (which sounds to me it works right?) will it impact the Translation Widget??

I have 'delocalized' many apps and it hasn't affected translator.
But I haven't delocalized the whole system.
My educated guess is you'll experience no problems.

No, translator works fine with any or all language packs missing.

That works great for the system install but many apps install all the diff languages regardless of what language packs you've chosen for your system...after a while it can add up to a lot of wasted space.

You can still run momolingual or delocalizer from time to time. But if you do the custom install and leave out unwanted language packs from the get-go, you're going to save space and time in deleting them later on.

...which is exactly what I used to do on my old G4 - since I moved up to the G5 last year and have ample drive space I am not too concerned at this point (although I of course did not install all the languages when I did my 10.4 installs...)

The only problem is that even when you leave out the other languages at initial install, or remove them with DeLocalizer, the system updaters still install the updated language components, if any are included.
