The ads as a first comment just started. It really annoys me, but I’m getting used to it.

I actually bailed on Reddit about a month before the election for becoming just an insufferable circlejerk, but r/chicago is pretty much my only source for local news, so I came crawling back.

I unsub'd r/politics and most of the national/world news subreddits a long time ago. But with how poorly Iowa is handling covid, r/Iowa and r/DesMoines is pretty much 100% people going hard on the governor and senators.

Yeah some big drama went down a couple weeks ago, one of the only other active mods quit after AnnArchist kept unbanning trolls.

He’s the top mod of (the now private) r/drama, where as a gag once he started turning randos into mods. The rest of the mods tried to mutiny, and so Ann demodded everyone. Every. One.

Reddit admin ended up involved and restored everybody, but the lead mutineer never got any permissions back (until they were let in at the bottom under a new account).

Good times.

I actually think the mobile app is pretty decent, at least on my phone. On my iPad I use the desktop website, though I stopped using my iPad for Reddit once r/drama went private.

I generally like the Reddit app, but the experience isn’t quite as frictionless as the website is. For what it does, the Reddit site really is pretty direct and keeps out of its own way. Unlike, say, Facebook, who took the horrible user experience of the website, and somehow made it even worse in the app.

New version of the Reddit app has “live updating” vote and comment numbers. Christ... make it stop.

(Reducing reward animation switch seems to do the trick)

My beef with app/mobile site:
- No flair support
- PMs very hard to send
- Constant nags to use chat, get gold, etc.

They definitely need to stop trying to make chat happen. Chat’s not going to happen.

I already had that option turned on and started to get those animations. Lately my front page after a refresh seems to be:
- Post
- Ad
- Check out these communities
- Check out this related content
- Ad
- 2nd post

Here's my latest pet peeve. They messed with videos. It used to be that I could tap a video and the scrubber would pop up so I could rewind and watch it from the beginning. Now when you tap a video it opens the video in a pop up with a billion pieces of flair all around the video but still no scrubber. So then I have to back out of that pop up and click the comment count to go to the comment page and finally start the video from the beginning. It's the worst.
