I'm getting a used iMac 17" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, and it's 160 GB HD probably won't do for long. Is the Hard Drive considered a user serviceable part, and if not, is it at all serviceable, such as by a trained technician?

Thanks.

Well, it's user servicable as in anybody who isn't a total moron and confident with a screwdriver could probably change it, but unless you are a certified apple tech, you will void your warranty. Also... I've owned macs for over 10 years, and never had anything go wrong during warranty, so I really don't care if I open mine up or not. >shrug<

Meh, mine doesn't have a warranty

So, does the back open like the G5s, it's just discouraged, or what?

It's very difficult, from what I've heard - make sure you get a good take-down guide with clear images, and above all work slowly! You should be fine, just don't screw up

The back doesn't open - you have to take the front off to take the back off, I think, and disconnect the screen.

OK, I really don't want to do this myself... Will an Apple Genius do it? Or is there some other technician who will do it? Or is Hard Drive size strictly set in stone unless you do it yourself?
