Should MacNN add a more "adult" friendly sub-forum? Obviously with age verification just like those other sites so no kids get in

And just to clarify, I don't mean a p0rn section. I'm just talking about a section (sort of like the PL) where more sh!t can fly. IE cussing, more spicy topics, and yes the "Hot babes" thread will be better... Or we can just go back to the dying PrudeNN that knifecarrier2, or Rob, or Ca$h or whoever it may be is talking about. Sort of an "enter at your own risk" section. <---that could even be the name.

That might be a problem for people at work if the entire site gets blocked because of one small subforum that they don't even visit.

Yes, let's fracture our already dwindling member base into even more sub-forums.

I think everything should be compressed into 5 forums. Hardware, Software, Networking, Feedback, and Lounge.

This forum could be merged with the PL lounge since shit gets real in there.

Besides, I think he was proposing a subforum for adult humans, not adult turtles. It's a little discrimination, but that's how we roll around here.

I don't think we need to change the pic or censor policy, but I like the idea of expanding the charter of the PWL to include more fun stuff.

1) Reduce the number of subforums
2) Remove most rules
3) Hire celebrities to make guest appearances, because people like celebrities

If you're being serious with two, which rules bother you in particular?

It's not really the rules, I take back what I wrote, but our attitudes about rules.

I've seen new posters come in here to receive snippy comments about posting in the wrong subforum, and in general there are posters that are quick to point out when various rules are being broken. With a membership this low and inactive, I'd say that rules being broken doesn't really matter, and in general we can afford to be less uptight about these sorts of things. In fairness, people seem to have relaxed as of late, perhaps in response to the fact that these things matter less and less.

I could be completely out-to-lunch and most people could prefer having very specific rules about stuff, but to others fussing over the rules may seem anal.

I realize that my free-for-all less structured sort of attitudes are probably among the minority though (excluding the 29034820934 Rob clones who seem to agree with me), so maybe this wouldn't make any real difference. My thinking was just mostly to simplify stuff.

I guess integrating this forum with news postings might help a little too. Has there ever been an explanation offered as to why this was given up on?

Could you give me an example of what it is you'd like to post or start a thread about that current rules are preventing you from doing?

I've had some of my new threads locked (although I don't remember now what they were), but just to be clear, I'm not complaining about this personally. I've learned to accept that I'm a weirdo, but my thinking was simply that perhaps I'm not the only weirdo. Then again, there may be weirdos who are turned off at my weirdo desires, should they come to fruition, so...

My new recommendations:

1) simplify forum hierarchy so that there are less crazy dead sections
2) integrate with news site
3) accept the fact that given the state of affairs that maybe it will be hard to grow the population by adding brand new newbs
4) optionally: cater to existing user base who might in turn attract others by striving towards sponsorship from IT products and web services within the MacNN demographic, include their ads rather than random Google ads, use their sponsorship money to deliver on a mobile option (or do this anyway)
5) hire celebs, I'd recommend the sound effects guy from the Police Academy movies

I don't know... I guess I'm just used to another forum that I frequent not being so "family-friendly" and it's literally no-holds-bar. BUT they do hate on new members as much as people crush the hopes and dreams of fresh face recruits here. I think as long as someone puts "NSFW" in the title of a thread it should be a fair enough warning that you could be offended and anything should fly.
