Doctor Who star David Tennant has signed up for a third series of the hit BBC show, but has said that he will leave after that series to pursue a Hollywood career. Tennant, who is currently putting the finishing touches to the second season of the show, replaced SHALLOW GRAVE star Christopher Eccleston at the start of the last series.

Ok so since Season isn't airing here in Canada yet how is the current Dr? I saw him in the Christmas special and he was alright, seemed pretty comedic but I liked the season 1 dr a lot.

Oh no...

The Doctor has, what, two regenerations left if David Tennant dies/leaves? Lock these fools into multi-year contracts for god's sake.

The writers will come up with a dodge around that regeneration limit. Just like the first regeneration got around changing from one actor to another-who looked completely different from the first. It might just be an interesting story point, too.

David Tennant to quit 'Doctor Who' - Attitude: The Latest Celebrity News - The Hollywood News

That article's a bit misleading. He isn't putting the finishing touches on the second series at all. He's just finished filming the Christmas special and is now shooting the third series.

Per the original piece in The Sun, Tennant's signed up for HIS third series -- the fourth series of the new run.

So, all being well, we get three series of Tennant, then a new Doctor.
He that will eat the kernel must crack the nut.

He's quite good- I actually prefer him to Christopher Eccleston, though it's a tight race.

Eccleston's been the best Doctor since Tom Baker.

What happened to the last Dr. Who? I thought he was good. This new one is so-so. Almost sucks.

eccleston only wanted a one year contract, out of fear of being typecast.

it's hard to make the transition, but tennant grows on you. He got me with "this is my fighting hand!"

I still miss Eccleston. He was really good — my favorite doctor out of all 10, actually. Hopefully Tennant will win me over more with time.

Yes, all of them so far. I like it too, there's still a link into Doctor Who with the odd reference to things that happened in Doctor Who, but its definitely got its own thing. And I also like it because its very Welsh, lol (It's set in Cardiff because that is where the rift is where the Tardis was recharged in the first new Dr Who series).

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Torchwood is already showing on the BBC.

I love Captain Jack Harkness, but don't really care for Gwen or the other Torchwood crew. I'll reserve judgement, since I've only seen one episode. I do appreciate the Doctor Who references though. Like Jack mentioning someday he'll find a Doctor, or how the invisible lift spot is invisible because a device with a chameleon circuit must have been there.

I've watched and enjoyed all four Torchwood episodes, but I don't think it's great. I seems to not be able to decide if it's a campy kids show or a gritty adult show. It's really a campy kids show with graphic violence, sex and bad language. And it doesn't really fit.

I think it may be getting better.

*SPOILER*

I liked the Daleks kicking the Cybermen's asses. That was cool.

"Daleks are superior to Cybermen in every aspect, except one."
"Cybermen are sup--"
"Cybermen are superior at dying."

Mwuhahahaha!

AND they left it open for the Daleks to make a comeback. w00t!

*sniff* I miss Rose.

i have watched all 4 torchwood episodes, i like it - the last episode was good because we got to see a little bit of jacks dark side - his character is the only thing that really interests me. they could probably have the whole show around him and that would be fine with me. i like it also because it passes the time between dr who seasons i think next year will hopefully be better then last - sorry pigeon but i'm not a fan of rose so i am glad she is gone - i wish they would have killed her though - i think captain jack is going to be in doctor who next year too - and i wish they would make an episode with the master

I'm liking Torchwood, and looking forward to the Next Dr Who series. I am wondering who the next 'big bad guy' is going to be in Dr Who though, we've had Daleks, Cybermen and Daleks v Cybermen, and I don't know of anything being announced for the next series in terms of enemies.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

well, there's plenty of baddies to go around... the master would be great, although I don't know how he'd be explained... how many bodies has he stolen beyond his regenerations now? tsk tsk.

They could also come up with some more new monsters. More alien planets!!! That don't look just like earth please.

More quarries.

i wasn't thrilled with the xmas special this year - i thought the bride was annoying - the only part i enjoyed was the preview at the end for the rest of the series. looks like we will get to see the sontarans - i think the new assistant will be great

Catherine Tate, who played Donna the bride, is a well known comedien in the UK, with her own sketch show, and has had parts in a few other shows too. If "Am I bovvered", "How very dare you" or "What a f***ing liberty" don't ring any bells, then move on.

I liked the episode, it was a good handover from Rose to the Doctor being on his own and grieving for her (yes I know she's not dead). They can get on with it a bit more now for the new series proper with the new assistant.

The new series looks like it has the usual mix of new things and bringing back some things from the first two series (dare i say the D word???). Roll on next year .

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

i dunno ... i like tennant but there was a certain NATURAL charm about eccleston. he didn';t seem to be forcing it so much as with tennant who seems to be making himself more whitty, funny, and zany.

eccleston just IS that way. or at least so it seemed.

the more i watch eccleston the more i like how he played the doctor and the more i watch tennant the more i like the way eccleston played the doctor i think tennant trys too hard - he comes off funny and whitty like you said but sometimes goes over the line - i think christoper really played a different kind of doctor - more serious - even grumpy like william hartnell. don't get me wrong i think david is a great actor and plays the part well - i guess appreciate christoper more now

Ok, I finally got around to Runaway Bride and have begun Torchwood.

Bride: thumbsup to the "anti-Rose" type companion interaction. Villain kind of boring however.

Torchwood: promising, I like Gwen, but Jack doesn't look like he's having a good time. His dimple just doesn't twinkle like it should. Is this because he's moody about being stranded on Earth, a future episode will reveal some sad sad secret, the weight of the world is on his shoulders, or is this just part of the "darker more adult" torchwood?

Ah, on to the second ep to find out!

well then. Finished Torchwood. Grew on me, I liked the character development and new types of stories. Nice to see some time-related stories where they can't just grab a TARDIS and fix it.

The Torchwood episode in which the group came back from the 40's (or thereabouts) once quite simply one of the most gut wrenching things I've seen on screen. What the father went though visiting his son was absolutely awful. As a father of a young kids, it was heart breaking.

One for Dr. Who / Torchwood fans to look out for is Primeval. Just shown the second episode tonight. Its on ITV not BBC so I don't know whether it will get to America, but will probably end up being downloadable from somewhere. Its basically Torchwood with dinosaurs. Pre watershed (like Dr Who) so there's no sex and swearing like Torchwood.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.
